Hello Artemis Community,

Today, I would like to announce the first TSN 'Armada' Online!

With the cancellation of the Artemis Armada this year and the worldwide lockdown, the TSN RP Community has decided to pool our knowledge and expertise to create an online Armada style event. The group is currently planning and preparing a weekend of online events, including plenty of games of Artemis, and live panels that you can watch.

Currently we are planning:
- a mission scripting competition (details to follow);
- GM missions, run by our experienced gamemasters and hosted by the TSN RP Community;
- a full GM campaign event spanning the whole weekend;
- a PvP Race event;
- and broadcasts about subjects such as modding, mission scripting and much more!

In the coming weeks, we'll be announcing more details about how you can join us as we finalise plans. We'll be using a specially created Discord server for people to gather and chat, as well as a TeamSpeak server for creating crews and playing games. We'll be hosting games for you to join using a stock Artemis game (the TSN Mod is not required!)

Our aim is to have everything ready to go in the next few weeks and we'd love for you to join us!

More details to follow...

Fantastic, I look forward to learning more.  Will this be kid-friendly?  MY 10-year-old son loves to play in our LAN living room set-up and we've designed a mission together, so he's super excited to see what he can participate in.

Looking forward to seeing how this goes! As an Armada planning committee member, I can say that were still planning on holding Armada when it's safe to do so. In the meantime, I think online events like these are a fantastic way for the community to get together and save the Galaxy!

This sounds really great! Both messages. 😉

I would love to participate at the Online-Armada and will enroll as soon as I know the date and have time for it.

And - if this is working well - I would absolutly appreciate it for a regular base. In Germany we have a sentence: "Aus der Not eine Tugend machen." (Making a virtue of necessity. - thanks deepl) and would be very happy to participate (after Corona) with a full crew at our ship. And by the way: once a year is very regular! [wink]

Give us the where, when, and how, and the Eaton Public Library will field at least one ship!

I can even offer some advertising and maybe even funding if there is a way to swing part of it as a library event.

Any other libraries out there which want to join me in hosting a co-op game???

Xavier - very, very, VERY ambitious!  BRAVO!!   If I can assist in any way, well, my schedule recently "opened up".  {Except Saturdays @ 2000 Zulu time.}

IF we get the participation levels I might expect, we may need to grant temporary access to non-Public levels of TSN TeamSpeak.  I can see 3 bridges using the 1st 3 public channels on 1 server, doing one mission, another 3 on the next doing a different and other bridges down in the non-public areas.  I also suggest you chat with Starry about the Canadian 42nd Fleet actions of Sunday, April 5th.  Maybe Nosey Nick and/or Davis will talk some about that experience here as well.

Hello DupeOfURL!

Something I am investigating is sorting a fresh Teamspeak server, particularly for this event. I have most things in place, so just need to complete the set up and test.

At the moment, the aim is to get everything sorted in the next couple of weeks so that we can launch in the last weekend of this month. There are a few more bits to do, but I think they can be organised relatively easily.

Very cool.  If there's going to be a mission scripting competition, it'd be nice to have lots of time before the event.

Nebula "Artemis in the cloud" servers can optionally have a TeamSpeak server on them, which can optionally load a ZIP containing your license file and/or ts3server.sqlitedb with all your channel configs and/or any other files like channel icons and stuff.

Generally, we've found discord is great for SINGLE SHIP games, where everyone on the ship wants to talk to everyone.

For MULTI SHIP games "in person", it works well to have the crew talk amongst themselves "in person" and a comms officer be the "go-between" for ship-to-ship comms, to discord or teamspeak or whatever.

For multi-ship games WITH SOCIAL/PHYSICAL DISTANCING, you need to be able to communicate online WITHIN your ship (who are now spread out geographically), and your comms officer needs to be able to communicate BETWEEN ships. In theory this is an ideal use of TeamSpeak "Whisper Lists". You can set up one hotkey to talk among your crew, and Comms can have another to talk to "the other comms officers" and perhaps "admirals back at command". In practice, if your crew is talking at the same time as another ship's comms, your comms officer is hearing them on top of each other, but of course the other ships comms officers don't know they're talking on top of your crew, OR vice-versa, so it can get a bit awkward. You should probably try to keep chat fairly low (like less that 20% of the time) both WITHIN AND BETWEEN bridges to stand a reasonable chance of NOT confusing your ship-to-ship comms officer too much.

If anyone can think of a way to improve upon the above, PLEASE let us know!   [crazy]

Planning for TSN Armada Online continues. We now have a date that we are aiming for:

2nd & 3rd May 2020

If you haven't already had the opportunity, come and join our Discord Channel. You can find the information in the previous post.

Tonight, a few of us will be testing out the Artemis Race concept. We have designed a couple of race courses to challenge small crews, and have been looking at how to structure the series over the weekend of events.

There has been interest shown in the mission scripting competition too. If you have an old script that can be spruced up, or a completely new adventure, make sure you submit it! We are looking forward to seeing what the community comes up with. Check out the Mission Scripting Competition topic for a quick outline of the basic rules!

https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/mission-scripting-competition-tsn-armada-online-10478964?pid=1311207102

Our GM's have been hard at work coming up with the story campaign for the weekend as well. They have been drawing up the story and the missions linked with it. So far, it looks like it is going to be awesome fun!

Finally, we hope to complete firm up the schedule of events soon. We're currently creating a "sign-up" form so we can find out how many crews will be attending each event over the weekend. This will allow us to cater for the number of crews who intend to show up.

We are looking forward to see you all there!

Hello everyone,

I wanted to post a quick update on the preparations for Armada Online. We are working on getting all the technical side set up such as the live broadcast arrangements and the Teamspeak server for communication. Hopefully over this week, we'll be doing a test live broadcast on YouTube too. It'll be to work out any problems and have a practise before the main event. Keep an eye out for that as we might open it up for people to tune in to!

Our discord server has had lots of interest and loads of people have joined on the past week or so, which is fantastic to see. We are adding new channels as required - the latest is for gathering questions for Thom which will be used during the live broadcast during the event.

The schedule is looking pretty firm now and we hope to release it over the next week or so. There might still be a couple of tweaks here and there as required. We are continuing to plan the finer details of each event. The overall campaign is really coming on, the sandbox has been tested to make sure it works with Artemis, and the race concept has been tested.

We are really looking forward to this event and hope people can join! The schedule will give you a chance to dip in and out throughout the weekend, and for those really dedicated fans plenty to keep you interested for most of the two days.

Xavier

Hello!

This evening, we were trying out a live broadcast to test our equipment and make sure we could stream earlier (as well as have a bit of a practise and get rid of some "live broadcast nervousness!"). There were a few technical issues at the beginning of the stream and getting things set up, but we managed to work them out. We wanted a video playing in the background, but sadly we weren't able to get the footage sent across quickly enough. During out live streams though, there will be some in-game footage, and even live GMing footage if we can get that set up. Honestly, it was precisely why we were doing this test stream.

If you are interested in taking a look, you can find a link to the recording below - it really starts at about 2 minutes 30s. We talked through a whole load of things about our planning and organising for the Armada online, as well as a little about the TSN RP Community. Hopefully it is interesting and gives you an idea of the kind of format we are going for in terms of the live broadcast conversations.

We might try and schedule another pre-event broadcast to test out connections, so keep an eye out. We'll announce ahead of time if we are so you can tune in and join us.

Happy viewing, and see you on the 2nd & 3rd May!

P.S. Constructive feedback is welcome!
