So Today showed up to run at the Brown Coats Ball in AZ. All the PCs fired up, connected the first 10 PCs and number 11 hit me with something I had never seen before. The start up screen came up smashed into a inch by 2 inch box, all the screen selections were crammed on top of each other, and there was no start button on the screen.

As such I could not load the game. This as an aside, would be great if I could force the config of the screen in an INI file and have the start button be clickable with focus so we could pre select values and click enter when it pops up. That aside, it now was impossible to launch the application.

I closed and opened it a couple of times, no dice.
I rebooted, no dice
I changed the display, no dice
I Uninstalled and re-installed, NO DICE. WTF really?
I uninstalled, turned off the machine, rebooted a few times, then re-installed, failed, then worked??!?!

I have no idea why it carried the setting through a reboot, nor do I understand why it started working again. I however I feel the uninstall was the best solution if it happens to you.

Anyone see this, and know of a config setting or thing that would have fixed it without the uninstall?

Any chance we can get a config setting to allow us to bypass this screen for builds of this nature?

That is possibly one of the oddest bugs I've ever heard of for Artemis... Its sheer stubornness in being removed is baffling to me that it would stick even after being uninstalled multiple times and the computer restarted multiple times. Anyways, I looked around a bit and couldn't find anything myself. If someone else finds anything, go ahead and say something!

Right click the desktop shortcut for the game>Properties>Shortcut tab>Run drop down box>select Maximized

No idea why the window was so tiny but this should get you past that issue.

I see that issue when I try to launch Artemis through an RDP session. For whatever reason, the display resolution coming through the RDP video driver isn't compatible with the little launcher box that pops up. As a rule, I select "Full Screen Windowed" which is remembered from launch to launch, but there's no focus on the 'Start Game' button, so if I were to launch it from Remote Desktop you can't click to start. I even tried identifying the button using AutoIt (a mouse and keyboard scripting tool) and the box isn't technically a dialog box, so you can't actually script the mouse click in a way that would work for everyone.

Was there a KVM or some other device that might have interfered with display resolution on that particular box? Were you using some kind of remote control protocol?

Good day.

I ran into this issue today after upgrading an older computer so that it could run Artemis (which it now does really well).

I fixed this by going to the compatibility tab on the shortcut's properties and telling it to run in 640x480 mode (I was hoping that this would reset whatever settings was making it run in the scrunched up window).  I had to start it that way twice...the first time when I ran it, it did reset the resolution but then gave me the "no 3D capable hardware" error.  I manually reset my resolution back to 1024x768 then ran it again.  It then reset my resolution again, but then the start up screen looked normal.  I close it, unchecked the "run in 640x480 mode" option and now it runs like a champ.

Hope this helps someone else having this problem.

Artemis rules!

Later.

OK... same problem with this when we try to run it on our server. All it does is come up as a small box in the corner. We have to get a fix for this because we wanted to host this. We host DayZ, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Minecraft... etc. Every platform has its on little things but this is odd. Its got something to do with Remote Desktop protocol and the fact that the server does not have it own video card etc. but I have literally tried everything I can think of.

Again, this is a server specific issue, not just running off a normal computer. Any help with this would be appreciated.

I would point out, that if you could configure the settings in a config file, maybe have a time out setting as well; it would bypass of select the defaults and continue past this sort of issue without stopping play.

Hello!

I am having an issue with this old problem showing up again... I'm guessing it's something to do with a recent Windows (10) update, because I was running Artemis 2 weekends ago and it was fine.

We have a game next weekend and I was doing some setup work today and when I opened Artemis the launch menu is crammed into a 2" window with the text all over the place. Screen cap:

start menu problem.jpg

I've done multiple reboots (also between the subsequent steps).
Uninstalled and reinstalled Artemis multiple times.
Uninstalled and deleted entire directory, then reinstalled Artemis V1.61 (the old build) which showed the same bug.
Reinstalled V2.0, problem persists.

I've tried all the fixes that everyone came up with on this thread in 2013, but none had any effect.

Anybody have any thoughts? Run into this problem? I have multiple machines running the game, V2.60 and all of them work perfectly (as I said, it worked fine on this machine 2 weeks ago, as well). I am running Windows 10 on most of the computers and Vista on 1 laptop.

I'll keep banging my head against this, but I thought maybe someone had a quick and easy fix that I'm not seeing.

Thanks guys.

I'm with bau.movement

After the update, my Artemis launch screen started doing the same thing.

Hello,

You will need to change the screen resolution. Minimize all windows and right click on the screen, select graphic properties and adjust the resolution and apply settings. Then attempt to run the game. It should open normally.

Good luck!

I don't think it's a resolution issue. I tried running a variety of compatibility settings, including the 640x800 setting (as suggested in the original thread), but it's a problem with the size of the window that it's cramming the text into.

You can see in the screen shot that it is overlaying text and the title is falling out of the bounding box.

I will try the resolution, heck I'll try anything... But what are you setting it to?

As soon as I changed the resolution the issue was fixed. I tried each resolution setting and it worked in each one. Try changing your computers screen resolution and let me know if it works for you.

Thanks, I'll give it a go tomorrow and will certainty update.

I also uninstalled all the updates that went through last week (didn't fix it) and am now re-installing them all.

Alright, soldierready, I'm going to admit that I was skeptical, but you were spot on.

After all the crap I went through trying to fix this, which ate up the better part of my Sunday, all it took was changing the screen resolution to anything at all and then resetting it to the native size. Boom, fixed.

Absolute madness. But super glad to have it fixed.

Thank you a ton for your help!

Same sh*t happened for me. I tried several resolution settings, but still having a tiny start screen like the picture of bau.movement !

That's really annoying and I wish we'll find out a way to solve it...
