Hey,

I play artemis with a bridge crew not in my local city. We regularly have problems getting one of our parties to connect to the other's server over the internet.

We're all using Windows, and we've had problems with both 1.7 and 2.0. We've turned off firewalls on both ends, and tried various network tweaks.

We've even gone so far as to run Hamachi client to connect to a group cloud-ip address, and got that to work ONCE, though none of us have any idea how or why as we've replicated the exact parameters and had no further success with it.

We can't possibly be the only ones having this problem?

Extremely frustrating since we can't often be in the same physical space very often.

Did you forward a port on the server network's router?

If you are trying to run instances on your own machine, you need to use the IP that Artemis provides.

In the YouTube video above (mine! Go me!), used as an example: everyone on the local network uses 192.168.1.14. Everyone "outside" on the Internet would use the external address.

Read that again: two addresses. One server. It'll work, trust me. The key point, which is not intuitive if you don't do this for a living: even though you're pointing to two different addresses, all the traffic will correctly behave.

The exception: if your router supports NAT loopback, it will actually permit you to use just the external IP address for both LAN and remote connections. That's not typical for home routers.

Question:

I have Artemis running on my home CPU running a server.

I have an ipad with the ipad version running a client.

The server provides a IP address, which is put into the client on the ipad...  no connection

The ipad is connected via wifi, belkin router.

Something tells me I need to do something at the router to let this work, but I have no idea how to start.

Can anyone provide some pointers?

Lawson, not sure how I missed your post, but heres my response anyways. I think what your saying is what I was saying as well. I've had some new people from steam, after hearing that they need to use their external IP for online play, started trying to use it for LAN play, which some routers don't like (mine is one of these). I thought maybe he was using his external and that his router wasn't liking it. If this isn't what you were saying, then I may need to reread that. I know the gist of the two types of IP's, though the specific details not so much. I only recently started working a lot with routers.

As for you Tomes, the mobile versions of Artemis are not the same version as 2.0. You need to run 1.702 on your PC to get it to work with your mobile devices. If you private message me a proof of purchase (all personal info can be removed, of course) I can get you a copy of 1.702 so you can connect up with your mobile clients.
