What's this new indicator Thom spoke of??

I realized while perusing the forums that you guys weren't seeing some of my new changes.  Specifically, you couldn't see the off-axis indicators for the fighters, and the fighters weren't launching towards the front of the carrier.  I went back to my code (on my laptop; I'm off visiting fam for Christmas) and I can't find those changes!  This afternoon I spent a few hours trying to figure out where the missing code went.  Then I started to conceive of a way I could have foolishly lost that code, despite my regular backups.

Finally I just spent a couple hours recreating those missing features, and here's the result; a DL link to a new executable:

http://www.eochu.com/dl/Artemis-exe-2-5-101.zip

This is not a complete game or an installer; it's just a ZIP file containing a new artemis.exe that you can copy into the base folder of your Artemis installation.

Please test this with fighters and let me know if you have any problems.  Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

I thought the fighters weren't launching in the same direction as the carrier, but I didn't trust my observations! [biggrin] Glad you caught this bug, and I will check on it right away. Thanks a lot for the update.

Edit: Okay, much better! I like the indicators! They're very intuitive, and great for tracking a bunch of enemies circling around behind you. I spawned a bunch of piranha, and I think it would have been impossible to keep tracking the same target without them. [smile]

One thing I think I should mention, though, is that the radar display can still be seen under the Fighter Bay image. I don't think you want that radar there. I was going to recommend flipping the Fighter Bay background horizontally to hide the radar, but that reveals you can see the ship silhouette too. [biggrin] So maybe what you want is a background that covers both the left and right edges of the screen. (For instance, make the "windows" to the upper and lower left solid grey, and leave just the part down the middle transparent)

Okay, here's a "quick and dirty" edit of the Fighter Bay image which should do the job. The lower window is filled in with a "shutter". The radar can still be seen on 800x600 resolution, but it should be hidden on anything higher. I'll post it as an attachment, and if Lightwave_Gecko wants to come up with his own version he can.

(Actually, this is my second attempt, and I think it's much better than the first, which also tried to block the upper window, but that's not necessary. I would recommend to Lightwave_Gecko to put a control console in front of that window, so it can take up the space and also serve as an anchor point for that long handrail)

This was a temporary fix just so Thom could get it out and get folks to test it. I suspect that some time after the holidays he will rebuild the install package on the web site and update the link. You'll want to delete your current install package and re-download it.

Until then, just ignore the message. It isn't detecting a virus, it's just too new and doesn't have very many downloads.

Oh I know it. Just pointing out the obvious. I assume it will get looked after the Holidays.

It's been a while... Any plan for a formal 2.4.0 to 2.5.101 update?
Also, AFAIK, Steam is still on 2.5.1
