I have to mention how shocked I am at the apparent suicide of CNN's Anthony Bourdain. He was in the middle of taping episodes of "Parts Unknown", and I had heard he was working on a new beer or alcohol tasting show, although it could have easily been a corporate infomercial type show he was only producing. (As he was with Christiane Amanpour's "Sex and Love Around the World")

It came as a total surprise to me, as I would think he would be too busy to give in to depression, but of course depression is not rational. It's been obvious that he has been having hard times lately. I think he was very upset when his show had political consequences, such as when the Iranian journalist was arrested after one of his episodes. His show was more than a food show, a travel show, or a political or social docudrama, it was somehow a mix of all of the above, and I don't think they'll be able to find anyone who can strike that same balance going forward. It doesn't help that "Parts Unknown" is a good 50% of CNN's lineup, and I don't mean that as a joke.

I'd also like to know if anyone managed to catch Marvel's "Cloak and Dagger" last night on Freeform. There are two comic books I have been a long time fan of, and they are Cloak and Dagger, and Hawk and Dove. I was glad to hear that the "Demon of Darkness and Angel of Light" were finally coming to TV, and Hawk and Dove will be making an appearance in the new Teen Titans show on DC's upcoming streaming channel.

I was impressed by the show, although all of the reviews seem to focus on just how slow the plot is moving. I like that, though, the original comic was never about fighting super-villains, it was about Cloak and Dagger, and how their powers both drew them together and forced them apart. And they started out from page 1 knowing how their powers worked and we only got to see their origin in a flashback. Seeing them figure out what their powers are, how to use them, and how they fit together with their partner's power should be a lot of fun.

I particularly liked that both Ty and Tandy seem to be able to see into their hearts of their "victims", and that isn't just a power linked to Cloak's vampiric soul draining. In fact, for a time it seemed like Tandy was the only one who could do it, until Tyrone showed he had the power too, at the end of episode 2. I also like that they seem to have dropped the addiction angle, with Cloak hungering for human light. I would like to see something similar (and Tyrone's mother did seem weakened after he had his vision) but it wasn't emphasized enough in the original comic that Cloak and Dagger were BOTH addicted, and Dagger NEEDED Cloak to drain her light just as much as Cloak needed to feed on her.

Anyway, this is totally off topic for Artemis, but I just had to post.
