Brief History of USN

In October 2015, a new roleplaying group formed. Taking the name of the now-inactive United Stellar Navy, they focused on internet based gameplay and prioritizing the fun and community aspect of the game over technical ability and tactics. Additionally, they have an equity statement and three founding guidelines:

  • The United Stellar Navy has one purpose: to help people have fun playing Artemis. We do this by hosting games ourselves, building a developing and persistent story line, and by welcoming and giving training to new players and people who want to play.
  • Any crew may call themselves a crew of the United Stellar Navy provided that, as a crew, they have no other outside affiliations. The only requirement for membership is a desire to play Artemis.
  • We speak out against exclusion of people and recognize the value of a diverse community, and encourage cross-cultural leadership.

Hi EMTP211,

I have a crew of six and we meet fairly frequently on the weekends. We all have assigned stations and each has honed their skills in their area.

I don't know if you allow an entire ship all ready manned to join or if it is like the TSN where people get assigned ranks, stations, and ships as they see fit. We have talked about looking for other ships to do a co-op over the internet. At the moment, we are down as we are building our bridge with new stations, lighting and so-on to enhance the experience even more than we have now. But when we are operational again we are discussing multiple ship play.

We are on version 2.4 with no mods at this time. I'm experimenting with the DMX Tools that is posted elsewhere for more effects but nothing to interfere with game play. We also don't enhance our weaponry and shields nor do we touch our enemy's equivalent. It's most often a straight invasion although we occasionally try a mission or the one where we wait for war to be declared before we can cross the neutral zone. I'm going off into detail now that probably isn't pertinent.

Oh, we do not have any outside affiliations either. We play as officers of the TSN although I've never called anyone by rank, only position. And we laugh a lot at some of the screw ups like our new weapons officer firing a nuke when we are too close to a space station and worse without targeting stating something like, "Oh well, I don't think they'll be sending the welcoming committee." Or sometimes get ridiculous where I'd order, "Engineering, we need more marshmallows for the hot chocolate machine." "But captain, we've fired all the marshmallows at the Skaaran Enforcer!" "Why? They don't have a hot chocolate machine!" "True, but they don't like marshmallows either." "Good point. Weapons, load the marshmallows!" We have fun and most of the time defeat at least level seven although we've been blown up a time or two by an enemy disguised as one of ours asking for help. We do take our jobs seriously, just not ourselves. [smile]

We do allow you to log on with us and join us as a complete ship our structure is loose and we are all here to have fun. if you wish you join us, you are more than welcome, your whole crew. If you want to remain as one crew you can or you can mix it up and play with others, the only requirement is to have fun. I look forward seeing you on the bridge. Visit our webpage, and log on to teamspeak and discord to join us. teamspeak channel ts95.gameservers.com:9119

here is a link to the artemis community game, most of all play all the game, some more so than others

By the way we also have officers who fly with the TSN as do i, we both enjoy the different aspects but in the end we have more fun playing with the USN. For alot of our members they enjoy the role play aspect of the game, so we try to stick to the RP idea while still having fun and training new people to play. We want more players.

The Eastern Front group plays along side the USN. Fun group to play with. We tend to do joint maneuvers on Tuesday nights (and pick up games at other times). I was helm of the Artemis on the mission posted above.

Nice bunch of folks over there. Even tolerate my newbness.
I've blown us up a few times and nobody even yelled.
Turns out nukes don't work well at close range and enemies don't wait for you to jump before hitting your mines.

We are still in the bridge building stage and one of my computers, for the helm, is being fitted now. My brother and science officer just asked me for flux as he forgot to buy some after getting solder. I don't have any so he went back out. Meanwhile I'm still tinkering with the DMX Tools because it doesn't like my current setup and scrambles everything. But I would love to get the engine speeds as I'm setting up lights in the back of engineering to move at whatever speed we are going and the color depending on warp or impulse.

It's exciting seeing it coming along although I can't wait to get back to playing again. That may be pushed out a couple of more weeks due to health. I've got to go back for another biopsy and a procedure to open my esophagus. Not eating really sucks. So I figure I'll be out of the game while I'm healing. That's okay, it gives the others time to build and I can experiment with the DMX stuff from my laptop.

I don't know why I wrote all that but the gist of it is that we'd like to join up sometime as soon as we get everything settled. It just sounds like a lot of fun. [smile]
