Hello.  I got Artemis about a year and a half ago for my three sons (10, 9 and 6).  We have played the basic 2.7 version for all of that time.  I just heard about this.  I am having some trouble and wanted to see if I could get some answers.  I have downloaded and installed the latest TSN expansion I could find, which was actually called ISN?? But I used it and it works, I have not been able to find a working sandbox xml script except for the one that is labeled TSN sandbox v(working) or something similar.  I start up the simulation and I have not yet been able to mess around and try things out because before I can even spawn any ships the simulation ends because the "mission has ended".  Love all this... can't wait to create a lot of little galaxies for my little bridge crew to explore.  Any help would be great.

If you activate the Sandbox before any player ships are spawned, it will automatically end. This is because the code tracks each ship, and if none exist then it assumes they have all been destroyed. The reason I added it was for a different mode that I had included in the past where a GM wasn't required.

When you start the Sandbox, don't click anything on the GM console until you see at least one player ship. The player ships must be named correctly (TSN Sabre for example) as that is how the script knows which ships is active.

Hope that helps. I think I also uploaded a video to YouTube about it. Search for TSN Sandbox GM guide and you should find it.

That was totally it. I actually was finally able to down load the latest tsn expansion from Dropbox and the sandbox script and the issue was I didn’t have the ship named properly. Thanks for the heads up! So excited.

Is there a guide for the latest version of sandbox? The pdf guide posted above has a different button configuration for the game master screen

I used to keep the written guide up-to-date, however I found that the Sandbox was changing too frequently and it took time to update the document. As a result, I switched to recording videos as these were quicker to do. You can find these on YouTube. Here is a link to an overview of the Sandbox:

There are other videos on there that detail menus more specifically, and when I have the opportunity I will upload more and replace out of date videos.

Hopefully they give you enough detail to have a go and work bits out on the fly. You're best bet is to flick through the menus and try buttons out to see what's there. I tried to make everything fairly self explanatory. In the meantime, if you have any questions, just ask and I'd be more than happy to explain.

Good luck and have fun!

Dude!

Just came across this while looking into scripting for a LAN I am hosting. Artemis has always been a big hit. This might turn the whole thing into an Artemis event.

Thank you!

Thanks for the comments! It's great that this is useful for the wider Artemis community.

There are a few videos online at the moment that go over key parts of the sandbox. I was thinking something I could do though is video myself GMing a game for the TSN and upload it, if people are interested.

I often run a mission or two as it helps me figure out where I could make improvements or think up new things I could add in, and I think recording how I use the sandbox might help others see some of the controls available or how I use those controls to create missions. Basically, it would be a demo of the sandbox that I add to the other videos.

Would this be of interest/use?
