OK updated!  Same link as before.

Updated Player Ship List:

Miranda
Centaur
Constitution Refit
Saber
Steamrunner

Cheyenne
Constellation
Nova
Intrepid
Intrepid Armored
Excelsior
Excelsior Refit
Defiant
Ambassador
Nebula
Akira
Galaxy
Luna
Sovereign
Galaxy Refit

Need to get that Prometheus back in, otherwise we're just a few player ships and some Terran Empire ships away from being just about all updated!

I'm not super happy with the stations, although I'm not sure I'm going to get to those anytime soon lol

Double update!  Prometheus added back in as a player ship, Terran Empire ships all updated, stats updated for recently added and NPC ships, and unified the file naming scheme for all updated ships.  I feel like Klingons need some more variety in their player and NPC ships, the Borg and the single Ferengi ship need updates, and the stations could use some help still, but we're just about there.  Same link as above.  Let me know if I missed something obvious that's causing a problem, there was a lot of file name wrangling.  Once I get all this sorted out, I'll have an official 2.7.4 release.

Also, if there's a particular ship (Federation or otherwise) that you think should be included that isn't, let me know!  Some of them shouldn't be too hard to put together.

I was contacted by a member of STARFLEET International, asking if I could create their interpretation of the Alaska class Ambassador variant in the mod.  A few reference photos and general ship discussions later, and work is in progress!  Not knowing ask the parts used makes it a little trickier, but we'll get there.   I'll say that going to a standardized texture map makes kit bashing a lot easier...

While I'm on a roll, I decided to update the Ambassador.  I like this version better 😉  I really need to update the images at the top of the post, hm....TNG Mod update 2019 07 24.png

How about the Klingon K't'inga (AKA the D7 refit). It appeared throughout TNG and DS9, as I recall. An iconic ship! I also wouldn't mind seeing the return of the freighter. Not as a player ship, obviously, but good for ambiance.

PS: I found a typo in the latest version of vesseldata.XML that is causing a parsing error. Adding </vessel> to line 2252 fixes it.

PPS: Where did you find info on these new Romulan ships that appeared in this latest update to the mod? I'm not familiar with most of these vessels.

Whups, thanks!  can't get those typos settled....  Download fixed, for those who haven't fixed it already.

K't'inga is a good one, I'll get that one put together.

Most of the expanded ships are based on ships from Star Trek Online.  That's where I'm torn right now, do I expand the fleets with very non-canon ships, just to have a broader set of enemies? Or do I pare them down to stuff we actually saw in the shows and movies?

Personally, I'm a fan of the canon. There is a reason why I deleted Star Trek Online and never regretted it. (Actually, there are numerous reasons but let's not get into that right now. [rolleyes])

However, the shows and movies also gave us relatively little to work with. There was a multitude of Federation vessels, and with a different color-scheme all of those ships can be used for the Terran faction, but when it comes to the everyday adversaries of the Federation -- the Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Ferengi, Jem Hadar, Breen, Borg, etc. -- there are actually very few different ship models per faction. Looking into stuff like the Star Trek Customizable Card Game might help with inspiration as it was full of pictures for faction ships. Here is a link to a Google search.

EDIT: Also, I think I would like to see an NX-class Enterprise.

Well, sticking to show/movie canon is pretty limiting for non Starfleet/Terran, IMHO. E.g. with the Romulans there are only like 3 warships that ever appear (not counting the Remans or that reboot ship)! So I think supplementing with secondary canon (books, STO, FASA roleplaying, etc.) is OK as long as there is a need to fill the ranks and they have the right feel. 😉

I do have a slight worry that on some of my older PCs, I can see that the list to load models makes it MUCH slower to start TNG Artemis than base Artemis on those machines. I mean, it's totally worth it right now, but I am concerned that the overhead might start to influence game performance (maybe even causing some of the random crashes?).

Speaking of canon, I'd like to share two show/movie-inspired mission scripts for TNG 2.7.2! One is written by me, the other is by another script writer but updated by me for this version of the mod. These were both tested on real crews during Comic-Con this year and got positive reviews. Enjoy! More coming soon! 😃

Well, I've been mining non canon ships for Klingons and Romulans since the very first version of the mod like 10 years ago, on the old forum,  and the canonicity hasn't seemed to bother most users so far lol Generally has been from FASA and Armada, but it's all outside the screen.

The biggest thing is that there really aren't that many ships for the adversary factions. Having a diverse spectrum of available enemies to shoot at can be helpful, especially in terms of Romulans  - it's pretty much the scout and the warbirds, with nothing in between. On the other hand,  regular Artemis still only has 3 ships for each enemy faction.  So I could still really go either way.

Well, not Canon but some of the kitbashed ships done by some people are totally awesome:

Plus, many of the parts are already done :p

Yes, kitbash is the way to make my life easy lol

The trick with specific ships from things like the Star Trek CCG is that they're basically all the same ship hull, just different crews and titles - that's what the players provide, not up to me 😉  I'm looking to diversify the actual hulls, which is going through the STO sort of hulls.  The TMP mod might get jazzed up with TMP era ships, like from FASA and whatnot, and the TOS mod may get some NX love, too.

The TNG mod has basically always taken much longer to load than the stock game - it goes a lot faster now that it's sharing textures, but there's just more that it's loading.

The Alaska class refit is now in the mod, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof!  I also discovered that my clever way of updating individual files in the .zip file in dropbox wasn't actually working, so I fixed that and this update should have the latest versions of everything. Same link as above.

In case anyone is curious, to make it work, I actually scaled all the different ship parts true scale, then modified the scale to the kits that were used (so 1/1000 for the excelsior parts, 1/670 for the voyager parts, 1/1400 for the galaxy and ambassador parts, 1/537 for the refit enterprise parts)
