Every Artemis player knows the Kraliens are religious. The canon says they believe in an ancient race of Gods who millennia ago taught the Kraliens everything from basic hygiene to electronic technology. When the Kralien Gods departed they left behind plenty of evidence that they really did exist. Occasionally someone discovers an artifact or relic showing that the Gods possessed mysterious super technology beyond anything else in the known universe.

The Kralien population includes special individuals who serve as prophets of the Gods. In recent centuries these prophets have written many texts which the Kraliens consider sacred. It is one of these texts, the Holy Scroll of Ambobrax, that says the Gods gave the Kraliens ownership of the galaxy and that every non-Kralien should pay rent for the privileged of living here.

Another the other texts is the mysterious Prophecy of Zuqonok. It is written in a Quintain, the most sacred of Kralien poetic forms. Even the Kraliens are not certain what the Prophecy of Zuqonok means. Nevertheless, I promise you that The Prophecy of Zuqonok will soon play a roll that will shake up the canonical universe. An adventure at Artemis Armada V may hinge on it.

For scholars who wish to study this sacred document, I now present the TSN's first official translation.

PROPHECY OF ZUQONOK

Concealed by gods, one gift greatest of many gifts

Somewhere in space owned by Kraliens

Sleeps long with blessings of eternal success!

Be always alert for a day named Zuqonok

That day’s number cannot be foretold

Castle shimmers in golden mist

Within, holy egg hatches

Blessed with two heads

Knowing caused by first

Deciding caused by second

Holy child’s first breath - Zuqonok!

Now holy mission begins!

Now strongest ships are built

Now strongest captains on strongest bridges

Quest for one gift, greatest of many gifts

Gods gave commands to Kraliens:

Scan the borrowed home of many tenants

One gift greatest of many gifts is not for them

Heretics interfere with delays

Deliver heretics to their afterlife

Kraliens will find many gifts

How shall Kraliens know one greatest gift?

Strong foot writes faithful story

Inside weak heretic’s jacket

One name of money they love

I have attempted to use Randal's Kralien-English Dictionary and the Object-Verb-Subject grammar structure to back-translate as much of the prophecy of Zuqonok into my best guess at the original Kralien text.  Here's my progress so far:

PROPHECY OF ZUQONOK
Prophecy du Zuqonok

Concealed by gods, one gift greatest of many gifts
Ersatz du vx, nunt lumdetel gurxua du lumdeteli

That is excellent work, Admiral Legasse!

Randal's dictionary doesn't include every possible Kralien word, so it's not surprising that some things are untranslatable. More importantly, you are looking at the first official TSN translation, done by humans, so it's possible (and intentional on my part) that some concepts are obscure.

Over many generations, the Kralien economy has become more and more dependent on collecting rent from the various populations they have subjugated, much like Saudi Arabia's economy has become dependent on petroleum. The Kraliens keep getting involved in wars because their only strategy for growing their economy has been to collect rent from bits and pieces of other empires.

In the Artemis Armada story line, rent collecting recently became a lower priority, and the Kraliens seem obsessed with discussing the "One Gift Greatest of Many Gifts." The Prophecy of Zuqonok specifically refers to a quest, and TSN Intelligence is worried about what this may mean for galactic peace.

There's some rumors going around in certain academic circles that a xenomythologist working out of the University of Betelgeuse is getting ready to publish a paper that offers some rather controversial opinions regarding what exactly the Kraliens are after...

My guess is the Kralien gods left an egg dormant in our galaxy. This egg is an albino double headed dragon or other space born creature that has special tech. This tech is new ship tech that will help the Kralians in collecting rent.
"Introducing the new Land Lord class battleship"

I am really looking forward to Armada 5.

That's a good guess, Parpar88. To faithful Kraliens every word of their scripture is infallible.  But the intelligence services of the Terrans, Arvonians, Ximni, and Torgoth have more nuanced opinions. Terran Naval Intelligence generally breaks Kralien scripture into three categories:

Undeniably Useful Scriptures include verified facts and sensible edicts from the Gods. For example:
  • The Gods were a highly advanced beings that once lived among the Kraliens then departed, leaving behind numerous artifacts.
  • It's a good idea to wash your mandibles before handling food.
  • Hatchlings should be cared for and educated.
  • It's a bad idea to leave dead bodies lying around your nest. You should bury or cremate them.

Possibly Useful Scriptures include rules of behavior, unverifyable claims, and predictions of the future. For example:
  • Hatchlings should be raised by polyandrous families (i.e. females can have multiple husbands).
  • The Kralien Gods created the universe using supernatural powers.
  • It doesn't matter who governs the Galaxy as long as everyone pays rent to the Kraliens.
  • Eventually everyone in the Galaxy will pay rent to the Kraliens. When that happens everyone in the Galaxy will be happy forevermore.

Probably Ridiculous Scriptures include disprovable claims, nonsensical ramblings, and outright propaganda. For example:
  • The Kralien Homeworld was created about 50,000 Earth years ago. (Terran Science shows the planet is definitely millions of years old)
  • If the last ice cube sticks to the bottom of your glass of Tedonale the Gods will someday be amused by your offspring.
  • The Kralien religion is the one true religion, and the Kralien race is rightfully superior to every other race.
Terran Naval Intelligence believes The Prophecy of Zuqonok falls into the last category. ridiculous and nonsensical ramblings. TSN top brass knows that the Kraliens are a military threat, but they don't think the Kralien scriptures are relevant to military strategy. Of course, the veracity of the prophecy and the strategic assessment may not matter. When the Kraliens interpret events in scriptural terms anything is possible.

For decades, Terran scholars have concentrated on studying Kralien scriptures from a classical cause-and-effect viewpoint, like the storytelling traditions of most religions. Fifty-two years ago there was a brief flirtation with the Mel Rohst school of thought, when Ximni scholars proposed that Kraliens interpret their scripture using a non-linear context. These Mel Rohst ideas fascinated scholars, but the proposed non-linear concepts were insanely complex. Subsequent papers flabbergasted journal editors and so went unpublished. That once promising Mel Rohst discipline is now discredited and ridiculed.

Today Mel Rohst lives on as a nerdy slang. Much as Schrodinger's Cat is used in jokes about existing in two states at once (alive and dead, drunk and sober), the term Mel Rohst is used in jokes about a single thought that will drive anyone instantly insane. These jokes are usually about intellectual husbands and wives talking to each other.

Some time ago the aforementioned xenomythologist at the University of Betelgeuse rediscovered that original Mel Rohst research in The Proceedings of the 95th Symposium of Galactic Belief Systems. She was intrigued by the possibilities, but no credible scientist would touch the Mel Rohst school of thought so she found herself working alone and without university support. She has attempted to get her controversial work published, but so far no peers will review it and no academic journal will accept it.

Until someone accepts her work, this xenomythologist will remain the only non-Kralien in the Galaxy who can apply a Mel Rohst interpretation to Kralien scripture.
