The "Hexaplex Vortex" is set up for two ships in one universe. One of the ships is a carrier so you can have 14-18 players make up one universe.

At Armada we had six universes with about 100 players.

The GMs' jobs were to spawn enemy ships. When an enemy X15 in universe 1 entered the universe 1 vortex, the GMs spawned a copy of X15 in universes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

If you have <19 players you only need two crews (including fighter pilots) so you only need one universe. That means you don't need a GM. The ships that enter the vortex within your universe will spawn their duplicates automatically.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Ah! I was under the impression that all of the 'alternate universes' were linked and running on the same game server, and all the players could see all of the other players at some point. This makes more sense. So with more than ~19 players, you would just run more than one server with the same map, and the GMs would keep track of which enemies entered the 'vortex area' so they could clone them...

Cool idea!

The Hexaplex Vortex really is intended for fully staffed crews including a full compliment of fighter pilots. Both ships have powerful buttons for the Comms officer that make it worthwhile to have a player dedicated to Comms. There is little need for a carrier to keep fighters in reserve because your space stations have a lot of replacement fighters and bombers. One universe should keep 18 players very busy.

If you have 20-36 players you could run two universes, each with two starship crews plus a squadron of fighter pilots. For two universes spawning could be handled by one game master.

Of course if your carriers do want to keep fighters in reserve, then they can get by with 2-3 fighter pilots. This means >36 players could be enough to staff three universes for a total of six ships.

Once you have >2 universes you will need more game masters.
