Well in the update if the enemy are getting a BIG speed update this might seem much more reasonable.

Personally, since it's not canon, I justify TSN ships being so much faster, which they are, by them "discovering" a technology that's thousands of years ahead. The secret of which they jealously guard. Which is why TSN ships can't surrender, only destroy their ships. They can't have that tech fall to the wrong hands.

I didn't say they don't bother, Paperman299. There could be alien ships with those technologies but they are rare, much as the Star Wars example you gave. You don't see these ships in an Invasion Mode mission but you might in a mission script.

I will note that while TSN Warp Drives can go Warp 4, Skaraans can only maintain Warp 1 for a short period of time. Of course, their Warp 1 is about Warp 1.5, but I would ascribe that to greater engine efficiency, and not a higher "factor" of Warp.

It's possible that Terrans have a better understanding of Warp drive, and thus are able to "break the Warp 1 barrier", just as when jet engines broke the sound barrier.

I'll also note that it's not a given that Warp 1 is the speed of light. All we really know is that it is 10 times faster than Impulse.
