On this post (http://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/catching-network-packets-6573222?pid=1279949903#post1279949903), we discussed solutions to have a splash screen pop up overtop the Artemis application when it was not playing the game.

One solution that I brought up was to have Artemis provide a TCP/IP listening port that an external application could connect to for obtaining various status from Artemis, so that it could respond accordingly.

To accomplish the desires that were posted, the port would need to send a message to indicate the starting and stopping of a game.

But I would also like to see the same event messages that are used for triggering DMX functions.

This is something that would need to work on all client stations, not just the main screen (where the DMX functions work from).

It has also been requested before--I'm just bringing it up again--it would be nice to be able to use command-line arguments to get past the resolution selection screen and automatically select a client station, taking it all the way to the "Ready to start" selection.

As a developer, I would LOVE to have an API like you describe. Just a few of the things I can think of that you could do with it:

- Running status screen (like you see at the end of the game, but displayed continuously)
- Animated decorative LCARS-like displays that react to events (turning red on red alert, for example)
- Integration with non-DMX systems (One thought I had: when enough damage occurs, actuate a servo that opens a "steam" valve!)

Going one step further, it occurs to me that this same method could be used to allow for remote control of the server--so that the server can run without a UI, and thus offer a true remote-access server solution.
