Agreed. A second ship also won't trigger the events, allowing it to reach places the player ship isn't supposed to be, like alongside the Warsaw. This could reveal how some of the "special effects" are done and potentially confuse the players.

On the other hand, a second ship could make the mission much easier to beat, and if it stays near the Artemis, it shouldn't change the plot too much. I believe I coded the Comms messages for sideValue 2, which means both player ships should be able to see it.

Great job on this, I just gave it a quick spin and this is exactly what I was talking about in that other post. Players who do not have the knowledge to write xml files need tools like these to be able to take their gameplay experience deeper.

This should have been included with the game from the start. It is disappointing that it needed to be provided by a player instead.

I (and most likely other players like me) am thankful nonetheless for your efforts in trying to keep the experience of Artemis deep and rewarding.

Hat's off to you sir.

One last question, do the audio files in HH trigger on the main screen or the comms computer?

Not every station in my setup has speakers, which is why I ask.

Mainscreen. All script files are played to the main screen of ship #1. This is a bit of an issue, since sound or video files can't be played for other ships in a multi-ship game, at least with the standard installation.

As for whether they are played on Comms, well I believe the concept is that Comms is playing the message for the rest of the crew, thus it shows up on main screen. Depending on the script, Comms should have a text copy of the message on their own display. This isn't the case with Havok in the Hamok sector, but I did add Comms messages that either cue the Comms officer to play the audio, or reword it in some way. Sometimes, the discrepancy between the "public" message (text) and the "private" audio is part of the humor. [biggrin]

Thank you very much. I have been struck by how limited Module_3_bases is in the past, as I use it very often to test the game and do research. I've had an expanded version for a while, but never thought to release it for other players' use until now.

I very much hope that it will become part of Thom's official download starting with the next release. That and my planned Simple Sandbox should add a lot to the replayability.

I'm trying to update some of my old missions to use the 'new' comms system.
Has 'incoming_message' (with its accompanying ogg file) been deprecated entirely?
I don't get any buttons to play audio files on the comms station.

Ryleyra, am I correct in assuming that the version of The Waning Dark that's in the first post of this thread *isn't* the one you used to make the screenshots for the wiki?

Yes, the 'incoming_message' using ogg files has been depricated. You must use wav files and 'play_sound_now' instead. This is one reason the new mission script folders take up so much space.

No, that's the script I used. Is there a discrepancy? Note I've changed the wiki page too, so if you haven't visited it lately, it shows the new interface. I moved the old screenshot that shows the old interface to the Version 2.0 page here: http://artemiswiki.pbworks.com/w/page/117930282/Version%202_0
