Well, the friendly ships are also "sublight". So I assumed the TSN just have a small force of specialist ships, like the Skaraans. Either that, or they have a fleet of basic ships, and about eight or ten "experimental" ships that they send out on special missions.

Since the game wouldn't be much fun otherwise, you're given one of those "elite" ships. [biggrin]

The enemy when they warp tend to do it in short bursts which, I think, is a little weak. I think the enemy need some faster ships, at least one or two, that can chase after the player.

Although in scripted missions that is possible.

I'm really glad that the game developers included so many features for scripted missions.

(Spoiler alert)

I played Legacy of War today, and I've run into a quite serious problem.

When the carriers start launching fighters, the game grinds to a halt: the consoles become laggy and irresponsive. The only way to have everything back to "normal" is to pause the main screen and wait a few seconds.

I suspect there are too many messages going around in the network, flooding all consoles. I haven't been able to debug this properly.

Can anyone tell me if this problem is specific to 2.0 or 2.1.1?

(REPLY TO Ivan)

Really? are you using 2.1?

I have run all the missions but that was on 2.0 and running solo so I don't know if playing it over a big network would cause that or not. It might?

After going back to normal does it return to being laggy or is it fixed for the rest of the game?

There is one event in that code that does put a bit of a drain on the system. Do you have the Mission Editor? Disable or delete the event called Rename Ships and let me know if it still causes you trouble? Basically it changes every fighter in the game, when they're spawned, into Drones not Avonians. RP aside you don't really really need it.

I used 2.1.1. We used just three computers, so I guess it's reproduceable running solo, but I don't have the time for catching this bug down :-/

After the speed corrected did it cause trouble for the rest of the game or just that once?

I ran into this with Legacy of War, and again in Kubia Lost. We managed to finish legacy but Kubia was just too much for any of the 3 servers we tried. I'm wondering if it's because we were running it in Wine...

but I've had similar problems with some of the Ardent missions too which is sad because the whole crew was absolutely enjoying both storylines.

Edit: that is using 2.1.1 as well though maybe tonight I'll try it with 2.0

I'm fielding this one to the community. So any thought or suggestions are welcome...

Perhaps the mission filers are too complicated for the game do you think? But it does run on single PC. Over local LAN?

What do you mean you are running it in wine?

Legacy of war has one event that might put strain on the system. It's called "Rename Ships" and you can delete it without affecting the game play or story.

BUT Kubia doesn't have that. There is a cool NADESCO inspired ship that spawns enemies in a weird way it could be that which is upsetting your servers? But I think it's unlikely. just going to run a LAN game of Kubia and see what happens.

I am looking forward to trying these - some friends of mine get together every year for a 4 day weekend to play tabletop games and Artemis, and I've been looking to spice things up with some missions this year. This will be our first go since the Artemis 2.0 rollout too so should be a ton of fun!

HOLY SHIT! The Children of Carnage mission is... insanely fun and tense. I had to play it solo to check it out, and it looked like something boring initially, but... it's extremely fun.

However,

1) My client crashed the moment friendly escort approached the transport. I don't know why... I had both server and client ran on same computer. But it's quite a powerful rig (can play most modern game on high to ultra settings at 50+ FPS)

2) Why does the bigger ship take down my whole shields in 1 shot? Is that somehow related to the mod? I kinda makes it impossible to go head to head with it, only option being to use mines...

PS: Consol is a typo?

PPS: Looking at your script, I found you have stuff that is ran every tick - like, you update ships's speed and surrender chance... Maybe you should reconsider that, because it REALLY taxes the system. If you want something to keep happening, consider a timer that re-starts itself in the event where it is checked for timer_elapsed?

Well I think that the player ship is always the most powerful and fastest ship on the grid so I thought it would be interesting to see how captains would respond if that weren't true. I think in TSN Academy you'd get a passing grade with your mine plan even though you didn't make it, because it shows sound reasoning. You shouldn't, unless there is no other option, attack where your enemy is strongest head on.

Though I wasn't aware that the bigger ships blasters were so unforgiving. What difficulty are you playing on?

About that crash, did it happen all the time or just once? Since you got to the bigger ship I guess it wasn't every time?

Yeah my scripts are pretty taxing, will try and make my newer ones, if I have time to keep making them, more efficient. I will go back through and make some adjustments if I have time. Unless there are volunteers? I had a list of plot outlines but not the time to make them into mission scripts. [frown]

KUBIA LOST FIX

I have repaired Kubia Lost but for some reason I cant access dropbox to upload it :S .

Either my ISP or the Chinese Gov are blocking it as a place of subversive content.

Sooooooooo... Overwrite the contents of the mission doc with the contents of this file I am uploading and that should sort it out.

Any future bugs let me know. It seems my Always On Events put too much strain on the system so its just a case of disabling them and working around.

CHILDREN OF CARNAGE
FIX & UPGRADE

Significantly more network efficient. Have tested it on multiple computers fine and scaled down the combat a bit.

Sadly still no dropbox access where I am so if you want to use it you''ll have to copy and past the contents of the txt file over the top of the contents of the original xml file to plat. Apologies about that.
