At the Armada I was walking by when a guy asked if I could fill in @ Engineer so he could go watch some friends play.  Found myself on the Excalibur*, configured as a Missile Cruiser with Jump drive.  Apparently they'd were running a Single Front scenario.  DS2 was dry, no nukes, no EMPs, so we decided to jump to DS1 which had a plentiful re-stock for us.  We docked and I noticed energy peaked over 9000 {didn't note exact number}.  I started yelling** at the Helm to do Jumps {AnyWhere Safe!} and Tactical to get Shields UP and start making and firing Homing torpedoes.  Basically do anything possible to shed power.  I was juggling power levels and coolant as best I could as fast as I could.  Systems were still burning out and the redshirts were doing their best to fix them.  And when the recently fixed system would burn out again, it would kill a redshirt.  Ended up with 3 redshirts left by the time we got down to stable energy level sand could jump to DS2.  We speculate DS1 had a several unfulfilled overcharge missions which we had completed all at once.

** my apologies to William Wallace, captain of the Excalibur {and one of the Chief Everything Officers for Gaming Nomads} And thank you for letting the yelling madman (me) take over for a bit.

I also hope that the meme was intended...

That aside, great story!

That is a hilarious story.

From a logical viewpoint the game should offer a way to avoid that. There is no way a player ship should be destroyed by friendly bases.

From a karmic viewpoint, though, I could see it as revenge for all the bases that players have accidentally killed over the years.

Yeah, I agree that while you don't want to just kill the crew for no reason, they should be on the lookout for potential pitfalls. If a console targets the wrong thing and it kills the ship, that's a learning experience! [biggrin]

JohnyOmaha - I think you WERE helming!
Meme usage was unintentional.  I had not seen it before LawsonThompson posted it above but have encountered it several times since.  #Synchronicity!

Maybe I should Stop Going to Armada(s)!*  This year, as I was yelling at  <ahem> Gently Suggesting To <cough> Helm to STOP PLUNDERING, we got over 6800 energy.  #BloodyPirates!  Still ended up dead in space, but at least I had some DamCon for later.....

How do I get to Carnegie Hall??    Practice, practice, practice!

* yeah, that ain't going to happen!
