Hi, I'm having a problem where we don't ever see the ship model for the Artemis change (running Artemis 2.1.1). We start the server, then when the first client starts and we pick a station which enables changing the ship, we choose a different model (e.g. battleship), but the ship shown on the main screen never changes, and respawn player ship is grayed out.

If we do a co-op match, the second ship is able to choose a new model with no problem and have it show up correctly, so the problem seems limited to the server not updating. The only workaround I've found is after choosing an alternate ship with the first client, to end the game on the server and start a new one (without disconnecting the client), at which point the server updates with the different ship model.

Any tips are appreciated!

first, log all the stations into the server, and then launch the game.

To follow up on what Nighthawk said, once the server starts the game and the mainscreen is running for a ship, that ship type is locked in and can't be changed. This means as soon as the server clicks the "Start" button and the first ship has "Ready to Play" selected, the server creates the chosen ship model in the game.

If you wait on clicking the "Start" button, this will give the helm officer time to choose a ship type. Once they have the right ship, then start the server game.

More precisely, either Helm should be the first console to click "Ready To Play", or the server should wait until Helm has selected "Ready To Play".

Note that when you select the Mainscreen for another ship, which creates that ship, you also get to select that ship. Since the server is the first ship's Mainscreen, it doesn't have that option. (This wasn't always the case, previous versions let you select the ship type on the server, but that forced everyone to have the same ship)

I've found it's usually best to wait until everyone is ready before starting the server anyway. Otherwise, you have people trying to log on while the game is running and enemies are advancing.

This makes perfect sense, I'm not sure why I thought I had to have the game running before connecting the clients but now it works perfectly. Thanks so much for your help with a dumb question!

Some missions posted on this forum require the server to be running BEFORE you pick a ship. You may have read some of those posts and got the impression that was universally true. Actually, those missions use a workaround to allow Jump Drive in scripts; the ship is actually not created in the script, and your first ship has to select Mainscreen for it to work.

I think the idea is that it should be possible to just start the server and everyone join in, but with all the different coding to allow multiple crews to select their own ship, a few "gotchas" ended up showing up. Thom may get around to working up another solution to the problem.

Hello there, I just took over the command of a USFP Ship.
We are fulfilling our first missions and so far everything looks great.
Thanks for the game!

But reading this, it looks like we are not the only ones confused with the server window.
When ever we start the server (without joining any clients nor starting the mission) there is always the Artemis ship already in the fleet.

It shows Artemis 0 / 0 (which I identified as 0 players on board with 0 departments chosen). Still, when the first client connects and choses another space ship, the Artemis is always the first one (and consequently displayed as a ghost ship on the server screen).

(Just en example - I started the server - no client connected and already had the Artemis. When I connected with a client and chose another ship, I got this result)
artemis.PNG

So what are we doing wrong?
Hope anyone might help, Version is 2.1.5 (but as in the screen shot shown, the same to 2.1.1.), downloaded from the web site - not Steam.

The first ship in a game must always use the "Artemis" slot (Ship 1).

This does NOT mean that in a non-scripted game like Scenario:Siege game that you must leave its name as "Artemis", though.

Helm has the ability to change the name of the ship to anything it wants BEFORE you start the game on the server.  If you want to call it the "Aegis", go right ahead, maybe "ESF Cloud Slayer", or "Bucket 'o Tin", but at least one ship in the game MUST be in the "Ship 1:" position.

Additionally, Ship 1's main view screen IS the server.  There is no need to get an additional computer to operate a Main Screen.

Hope this helps clear things up.

Alright, I got it. Thought, if I chose another ship this would automatically be ship 1 (instead of the empty Artemis).
So, well, if that is normal, it's not exactly what I was hoping for but I'm fine.
Thanks for the answer.
