Hi,

i was sent this way by the developer after I bought Artemis yesterday. Sadly I'm not having much luck getting it to run.

I was trying to have Windows 7 (Dell XPS 17) at the server but it either crashes on the server connection screen, or will run a server but then judder and lockup.

I then tried running the server on another machine, a Windows 10 Dell E7440. Despite not being as powerful as the Windows 7 machine it makes a better go of it and runs a while. But one time it just shut with no error... and more recently it was running but then the clients say the server has gone and the game has just locked up. The connection comes back very briefly and I see the game move a few frames on the server... but fundamentally it's just locked up.

I installed 2.7.1 and the developer sent me a new install file to try but no luck.

Any thoughts? Two different machines, two different setups, two different OSes but the results seem to be bad in both.

Thanks

Darrin

What video card are you using? What version of DirectX? Have you run dxdiag yet?

The Dell XPS 17 is Ge Force GT 555M
It's on DirectX 11. I just rundxiag it says no problems found.

The Dell E7440 is an Intel HD Graphics 4400. I believe it's v11, but would need to check.

Can you run two instances on the same machine, one server and one client? Does that also fail or lockup?

Hi. Just tried that... similar results. I had the client running on the same machine, and ran a client on a second machine so that i could begin the game.

It initially starts, the ship moves around on the 'view screen'. But it progressively gets more and more jumpy before not moving at all. The clients then say the server has gone. I can still operate the PC in question, and even close the client on it without issue... but the server Windows says it has stopped responding and I have to force stop it.

When running the game your server should be able to run the server on one instance and a client as a second instance with helm and weapons selected simultaneously in the client window. You'll need helm and weapons at a minimum to be able to start the game.

If you can run the server and client from one machine and it still fails maybe it is the install location?

Exactly the same result... runs for a bit, gets slower and more juddery, then server is not running and the audio is stuck and I need to terminate it.

I'm no expert on this but maybe it is something to do with the Direct X? I think it runs well on direct X 9, any one else feel free to chime in but I'm thinking it could be a direct X issue.

Maybe be relevant to your issue, could be a wild goose chase,

Dell XPS?

Curious: Does it have SmartByte installed? It's been known to cause trouble on some network games, and is installed on some newer Dell systems.

I'm not sure what the DirectX link is telling me. But I've tried on Windows 7 and Windows 10 to the same result.

I don't have SmartByte installed, and I think from the test above by running the client and server on same machine that would have ruled out network issues.

Can you please do two more trials and let us know the results?  Please look for and disable Smartbyte if it exists on your machine. Run the game, any changes?

With Smart byte still disabled please ensure that you have Direct X 9 redistributable installed and then run the game and report if there were any changes.

At this point eliminating different causes will help us to further assist you with getting the game running on your set up.

Hi. Honestly I don't have Smartbyte installed. I think it's Windows 10 tech, so is not an issue with Win 7.

If I install DirectX 9, will this have an impact on DirectX11? I don't want to impact other games. Also will the game just then use v9 in some automatic way?

Thanks.

I just bit the bullet and installed it... same result. Starts okay, progressively gets more and more laggy/jumpy then just went to a black screen.

It runs mostly fine, minor frame drops, then deteriorates and falls over.
