Well this isn't directly about the game but it is about "making the game better." At least for some. Which is why I stuffed it in "Development".

Artemis is an awesome party game generaly, but it's also fun to RP with. The RP is fun and is one reason why the RP Groups are popular. Now most people like to RP themselves in a future setting but in a LAN Party you might want something different.

So inspired by D&D 5e here are some Character background and traits to help people get started.

People can choose one or get a card randomly.

What do you think and can you come up with more?

I feel like the cards need objectives. Like the spy wants to destroy the ship and the noble wants to be in charge of all the little people. The rea are a little difficult but I think it would be really cool if the people wanted command. Or have the guy who wants no one killed and a sociopath on the same ship. Interesting dynamic possibilities

Oh you mean like make it a game within a game. Interesting idea.

Like one of the officers is an enemy agent and you have to find out which one? Not sure how you'd do it though.

Well say everyone has an objective. Anyone can be ousted from their post by the captain if the captain is suspicious of them or the captain can be ousted by the XO and the crew. I would need to think about it more to make it work but I just think it would add so much to the roles.

I didn't even think of that. Kind of like Clue and Artemis had a baby. [wink]

I was just thinking to give people material to RP with. Like I'm the guy that keeps bringing up my Sci-Fi war stories or the green officer that keeps quoting the regs every two seconds. Or give them a feeling of where they fit in the grand scheme of things and that they are special with their own story, like they are from a space station, the streets or a powerful trading family. I might not be up to a lot on this mission on this station, but I'm secretly an alien!

Let me know what you come up with. Could be a cool expansion to the idea. [biggrin]

A nice idea, and nice use of archetypes, instead of just assigning a player a character and having him role play it. It gives the player enough room to shape his character within the framework.

Objectives might be interesting. Like say you might have the "Gung-Ho Gunner" whose objective is to fire as soon as possible at any threat that shows itself. The Captain would obviously have trouble with a Weapons officer with that character. Other consoles could demonstrate the tendency in their own way, though.

On the other hand, the Pacifist (Believer) would want to make sure enemies are all allowed to surrender.

Excellent idea.  I will have to consider these for convention games and give some thought to how to use them.....

The Gun-Ho Nuke Jockie... Missed that one. [smile]

Originally I had HOOKS too, like how you relate to a specific mission. So for Countdown Detonation one was going to propose to his/her girlfriend/boyfriend at the concert, but since leave was canciled at the last minute they were waiting for them after the shift on Habitat Station 24 and the ring was still in their pocket...Dum Dum Dummm. I thouhg it could add some more drama but I couldn't come up with enough good hooks for all of them.

Cool idea, Arrew. Look at the old "How to Host a Murder" series games, or the old Star Wars live action roleplaying book if you can find a copy, for examples of how to integrate role assignments with motives and privileged information.

secret objectives for the players always make the game more fun:
check out Wil Wheaton's Tabletop series XD

you may add a few more, for variety: the Newbie, the Ambassador, the Merchant...

(somehow, I believe The Spy would get all the attention)

Sometime this week I am gonna sit down and create some objectives. I am thinking of combining it with the campaign that bidderlyn created a while back to give time for objectives to complete.
