Assassino came up with an idea that I am posting on his behalf.

The engineering screen allows you to store and recall settings for energy and coolant allocation. At the moment, when you create a preset in the game, you can store it to the numbered selection buttons at the side. It would be really useful if the names could be edited so that they can be easily referenced. Instead of just seeing "1" editing it to something like "Attack" or "Shield boost" or "HET" would make it easier to remember what the preset is for.

Thanks!

Xavier

This is an idea I can get behind.

This is a good idea.

Here's a different but related idea, how about if you mouse over a preset button, it puts ghost sliders over the interface or something to give you a preview of that preset?

Or possibly, if you hold down the preset button it gives you a preview, but if you drag the mouse off the button before letting go it doesn't commit. That way you could get the preview with a touchscreen- imagine running your finger down the buttons looking for the preset you want and then letting go on the right one to engage it.

YES to the ability to name presets.

Yes to ghost indicators on mouse-over or something similar.

And while we're there... discovered that on a touchscreen, if there are any glitches or inaccuracies on the touchscreen, it's easy to accidentally tap "STORE" when you meant "1" and clobber preset #1. Doh!

Could the STORE button be moved a bit, or perhaps require confirmation?

Hey, does anyone else think this is a great idea or is it just me? I would love to see this in the game.

This would be great!

I would want there to be proper support for keyboard-only users though to be able to name/view the presets without requiring a mouse.

This would be useful.  For want of labels, our group has gotten so accustomed to "Mode 1," "Mode 2," "Mode 3," and so on meaning our specific presets that we'd probably be thrown for a loop by an engineer doing anything different.
