Just purchased a new release version for PC and installed. Purchased new version of iOS and installed. They both came up as version mismatch.

Is there a clean install for version 2.3 for PC?

See here: http://artemiswiki.pbworks.com/w/page/39352315/FrontPage I just posted a link to a 2.3 "downgrade".

The link itself may change, but I'm hoping to make that a permanent link, as long as the versions are out of sync. Note also that you will lose all of the Ximni ships, Combat Jump, and the GM menu interface with the downgrade to 2.3. So don't install it over 2.4, make a copy of your folder and install it there.

Just install the downgrade. It must be wrong. Did anyone alter the installer? The ships look like a third-graders bad artwork. Lightning is all over the place. I need to get a link of a clean install directly from the company.

Are the ships you're seeing similar to the ones in 2.4.0 stock? Do they look similar the ones here? http://artemiswiki.pbworks.com/w/page/53260454/Ship%20statistics

I'll note that ship textures tend to get down sampled pretty hard in game.

If you didn't make a backup copy of your 2.4 install, the 2.4 upgrade in the main download page should restore it.

If you purchased the PC version of the game from Steam, you can still run as many consoles as you want on the same computer by simply running the game multiple times. Select 800x600 resolution, and see if you like the look and feel of 2.4.

If you purchased the PC version from the artemis.eochu.com website, then you can run it on as many PCs as you need to determine whether or not you like it. All versions out there are the "official" version.

I've confirmed the 2.3 release of the game is still on the web site. I've linked directly to it from the Artemis wiki. There was no difference between the copy I uploaded and the copy on the web site, but the link is changed anyway.

Okay, I've compared the 2.4 patch to the 2.3 patch, and I think I've found the problem. 2.4 replaces the file artemis.dxs file with a new version which is slightly different. Displaying the new model with the old artemis_diffuse.png texture results in the ship looking patchy and distorted.

I can suggest a couple of solutions for this issue:

1) If you can download 2.0 again from the website without paying for it, (or you still have the original install file) do so, and install the 2.3 patch on that copy of 2.0.

2) If you have an old copy of Artemis 2.0-2.3, copy artemis.dxs over to the new installation. Alternately, copy artemis-scout.dxs or artemis-3.dxs over artemis.dxs. The Light Cruiser will look like a Scout or Battleship, but it's workable.

3) Edit vesselData, and change artemis_diffuse.png to LightCruiser_Diffuse.png. Same with LightCruiser_Glow.png and LightCruiser_Spec.png.

4) I suppose I could create an edited zip file with the required files and upload it to the artemis wiki. Or maybe an edited version of the vesselData file. I would probably have to do this for Artemis 2.1 as well.

Thank you. I have just finished loading a fresh 2.1 and then upgrading to 2.3.  The Artemis ship looks normal.  Also the audio played back. So there may be a few more altered files in downgrading from 2.4 to 2.3.

It was very nice to get a chance to look at 2.4 I hope the iOS update  will be coming soon. Is it possible when you get 2.5 that you keep it in beta until the iOS and android are ready and release all at once. That way everyone is on the same page with any operating system. That way when we have family and friends spend money it won't cause issues.

I'm guessing not - Thom has typically released the PC version then sent the code to the mobile devs.  Partly, I'm sure, to do more bug checking before getting it into the iOS dev cycle, since he can issue a bug fix version to PC relatively quickly.  Obviously it's his call, but that hasn't been his M.O.

I've actually wondered why Thom released to Steam so soon after releasing 2.2. Of course, as it turned out, he was unable to find that bug until just before 2.3 was released. But if Thom chose to follow the typical development cycle, he could release a beta version to his site just before the main release, and let the players check it out, and then have a "stable" version which he released to Steam and his developers on iOS and Android.

That doesn't seem to be Thom's style, though. I don't think he distinguishes between "beta" and "stable".
