Hi Guys - hosting a multiship night in a few hours... and wanted to expose players to some PVP games.
I recall some really great PVP maps - one with lots of nebula... one with stations encircled with minefields that opened when approached. But I cannot find them now. We use to play them online a lot - maybe 2-3 years ago.

Maybe Charlie (Chas) made them?
Anyone point them out to me.
thanks

Chas did create a couple of good PvP maps with lits of nebula. You might be able to find them on the forums if you search for his missions thread.

I think the minefield one might be the one I created years ago too, though there may be othera. It reduced warp speed in that as well so you had to maneouvre more, but wasn't brilliant and I don't think I completed the script/ fixed the bugs.

It has been a while since I've thought of PvP though! You've just got me thinking of maybe revisiting the idea this year. We use an energy mod in the TSN that might make it more interesting (warp, manoeuvre and impulse are more efficient, weapons less so), and I'd be happy to share it. I could design some maps with strategic areas to fight over like capture the flag style games. Other maps could include 'king of the hill' or simply 'last crew standing' style stuff.

Just knocked this BvB script up for you to have a go with.

In the folder, I have included the modded artemis.ini file we use that changes energy usage if you want to give it a try. All ships will be significantly more energy efficient, so much so that you can even use a dreadnought without having to shovel homings into your reactors like coal on the Titanic! I think homing torpedoes have a higher yield too.

The BvB script is a simple King of the Hill game. You must use the standard ship names I am afraid (Artemis, Intrepid etc) for it to work.

Spawn all the ships first (if you don't know how, give me a shout!) and then use the GM console to hit Q. This will start the game, setting the correct positions for all the ship. Each team will then have 15 minutes to capture and control point X (a generic mesh in the centre of the map). There are two bases where your ships will start, though they are not restricted to a side.

Ships are organised in to the following teams:

Blue Team = Artemis, Aegis, Excalibur, Ceres

Red Team = Intrepid, Horatio, Hera, Diana

Each ship within 2k of the X adds 1 point to the team score. Whichever team has the most points will control the hill. If a ship moves more than 2k away from the X, it loses its point.

If a ship is destroyed, you should be able to just re-spawn easy enough.

I might expand on the script at a later date depending on how people find it, adding a wider variety of maps, setting the sides correctly etc.

Anyway, hope you enjoy! Give me a shout if it worked out. It would also be interesting to hear if the players came up with any effective team tactics, or if it was just a short-ranged slug-fest to see who survived!

The v4 Sandbox has a few different PVP arenas and game modes. Just load it up and Press "P" for the PVP menu as the GM. Remember you need to have observer activated to see the pop up menu. From that menu you can also manage and alter teams on the fly.

Download it here:

A lot of the time PVP boils down to trying to dropping mines on each other or firing nukes and very little beam work... So I came up with a game mode, I think it's the last Arena, where player ships start with no ordnance. Beams only... BUT there are other ships in system. Players have to destroy the neutral ships which drop AMMO crates that when collected give random ordnance. Means that games are much more tactical in how you want to attack the other team.

Was tricky to set up. But PVP wasn't as popular, so I haven't had much feedback from it. If you give the game modes a try let me know what you think and how you get on with them. [biggrin]

Sorry I couldnt catch you the other night Westy. I had some trouble with some of my maps after recent updates and I wasnt sure what ones worked or not. I was glad to see some interest in PvP matches though so I did put a new map together. Not sure if this map need some tweeks but I did load it up and if you follow the startup properly it seemed to work for me anyways. I'd love to hear if anyone checks it out and I would love to join in if I can time it. Hope it works out, Chas!

This is all great guys - I will be trying these for the next night.

We did try several rounds of BvB - using the stock set up, and ended up using the free for all mode, just so the ships would be near enough each other to be able to fight before running out of energy... rookies too, they wanted bigger ships - and were surprised when I was able to take out their dreadnought with the light cruiser.

I think I am hosting another largish group in two weeks and try out all these options.

thanks

Any recommendations from you experienced PVP players for a script that would be a good basis for integration with an Away Team LARP? I'm hoping for something like a Capture the Flag 2 sides, 2-3 ships per side, where the flag or flags are bases that can only be captured via live-action boarding battles that can be fought out real-time with Nerf guns in a nearby room/hallway/lot. Ships would need to dock or at least pass nearby the base in order to load and unload their away teams, and there would be standing fleet orders on both sides that the bases are too valuable to be destroyed.
