WELL HERE IT IS! The long awaited Artemis DMX Tutorial. This is a rather long video but it really does cover EVERYTHING!

Shae,

First of all, thanks for the great video. I think I've watched it about 10 times!

I recently bought lights similar to yours (some 4 channel RGBs and a disco ball). From your video your lights all look to be the same model lights as mine.

The 4 channel lights work great but the disco ball doesn't respond to DMX commands (it does cycle through presets via the menu button).
Is there anything special you had to do to get the ball to work with DMX?

I noticed that the display on your disco ball blinks "A005" while in operation. Mine just has a solid "A005". I am also assuming 7 channel operation like yours although the "manual" list that is is 6 channels (strobe, red, green, blue, machine position, presets).

I don't have a physical console with sliders to test the lights so I have been using a program called "KMTronic DMX test software" (http://www.kmtronic.com/kmtronic-dmx-test-software.html). It works great to command the RGBs but the disco ball doesn't respond.

Any help from you or the forum community would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe a stupid question, but did you altered the DMX file to send commands for channel 5 and up?

Does it (kind of) work if you set it to A001?

Any mistakes you can find, you can keep and with the spelling mistakes you can cook you an alphabet soup.

The DMX file was updated to reflect the correct channels. It didn't respond on any channel.

I was able to get it to work. Here is how I made it work:
1. Rewired the internal DMX wire harness
I had previously created a USB to DMX adaptor cable so I was familiar with the 75176B transciever IC chip that translates the DMX signal. Using a multimeter I was able to determine that the internal wiring that transfers the DMX signal was wired incorrectly at the factory such that the DMX + and GND where reversed. I swapped the outer 2 wires (in this case blue and red) and it began to work.

2. I had to set the address to A001

No matter what channel I set the disco ball to, it only responds on channel 1. Maybe when I change it on the display it doesnt accept the change (enter key may not work)
I changed my ARTEMIS DMXcommands.xml file to reflect the new channel and it works!

Dear Adamantium007 & Newcommerin

I wanted to first apologize profusely for not responding more quickly.

Second to address your questions about the xml code here is my file. It is fully commented:

I believe if you look at my code you will see what I am doing alot better. You can also find all of my documentation in the description of the youtube video.

Third to address the A001 blinking, I believe it starts blinking when it is receiving a signal. I could be wrong or it could just be a defect.

To explain a bit more the reason I have it set to A005 is because I have the CAN lights operating on channels 0-3 (remember when coding you start a 0) and then the disco ball is operating on channels 4-10. The disco ball interpretes its A001 as channel 0 and further A005 as channel 4. The Ball will work most likely if you have it set to channel 1 but it will not be doing exactly what you want it to.

To get a quicker response in the future I would recommend privet messaging me.
