Hey all,

I am not a tablet user so haven't really been following along but I have a friend coming to visit with his Nexus 9.

Seeing a lot of back and forth, mostly on older posts about how far and if tablets are still being supported.

Can anyone give me the latest word on tablet support, specifically for the Nexus line?  I found v2.1 in the Android store and a third party tool for Androids up to v2.0.

Anyone with support for 2.2+? Is Thom still going to be releasing tablet updates?

Thanks all.

As I understand it, versions for Artemis works like this: X.Y.Z
The left-most number (X) in the version is the major version.  When it changes, an upgrade fee may be required (as it did moving from 1.x to 2.x).
The second number (Y) in the version is essentially a network protocol compatibility version.  (They should be compatible if the X & Y numbers match.)
The third number (Z) is a minor release number.  (This will be incremented for updates that don't affect network compatibility.)

As for released versions, I think the situation goes something like this:
Version 2.1 is the current 'live' version.  It is available for Windows (2.1.1), Android (2.100), and iOS (2.1.1).
Version 2.2 was a development/testing version which was never officially released.  It was only ever available for Windows.
Version 2.3.0 is a 'beta' release for the upcoming 'Armada' convention, and compatible versions for Android and iOS will eventually be released (possibly as 2.4.*).

current live version of Artmeis for PC is 2.3.0. This is the version you get when you buy from Steam. the current version of Android/ OS is 2.0. You do have to have matching versions to play, however a tablet running 2.0 will connect with a PC running 2.1.0 or 2.5.0 as there weren't enough differences to create a game compatibility issue.

There are some quirks with connecting a tablet on 2.0 with a pc running 2.1, but it will still play. it will show a wrong version warning, but just click through it and it will be fine. If the tablet is used for vis and you are trying to dock, you may not see the space station.

a 2.1 installer that will take your game of Artemis back to 2.1 is available on the downloads page of the main sit.

Give that a go.

The tablet version is 2.1, not 2.0.

It is hoped that 2.4 will be released for PC in April, and then on the tablets soon after. I think it should be noted, though, that the Fighter console requires more graphic capability than any other console besides the Mainscreen. If the VIS screen works on your tablet, then it will probably be fine, but if the tablet's performance is slow, the Fighter console will probably also be slow.

Oh, the "third party" Android release of Artemis is what became the official release. It is just a preview of the 2.0 version.

Thanks all.
That pretty much confirms what I thought from the other posts I had seen.

We are going to try to scrounge up enough laptops for all but if we need to use the tablet we can just run anything other than fighter or main screen, which we probably would anyway just for ergonomics.

I would definitely have a dual installation on the PC with both 2.1.1 and 2.3 until this issue gets resolved. If you have Artemis 2.2, though, it can definitely be discarded.

Yeah, between the different versions in use by various online groups and the mods I have like 5 iterations installed.
