I have a request to make "use_science_selection" a thing. Just like use GM selection. I think I could add a lot of interaction for science with a property like this to use. If its not possible for the next release of 2.x, then I have an even bigger wish for it to be available in 3.0

Science can already sorta do this with a scan-level trigger. Enemy ships have two scan levels, but other scannable things generally have only one. Generic meshes can also be scanned. I've written some missions where Science can cause things to happen on the map by scanning a generic mesh. Once the scan level 1 triggers, you can delete the generic mesh and replace it with an identical generic mesh. This "resets" the scan level, so Science can trigger it again if need be.

This means Science could scan a buoy or artifact to do things like activate/deactivate a minefield, open a jumpgate, request a supply drop, open a holding tank full of piranhas/Nsects/shark/etc. I have also used Science scanning a generic mesh to reset Comms buttons, if Comms loses connection or has to reset their client. Once you set up enough "toggle buttons", you could do all sorts of wacky algorithms: play tic-tac-toe, write Morse code messages across the sector with nebulae/mines, roll yahtzee dice, trigger a Youtube clip on the main console, etc.

One thing I'd really love to pull off is executing an Atari 2600 emulator on the main screen, but I haven't figured out how to send it joystick commands.

You serious? Joysticks are just 4 "toggle buttons" y'know... Well unless you absolutely NEED and analogue joystick.   [biggrin]

I haven't figured out how to send keystrokes from a client to a DOSBox on the main server.
