Hey all,

I've been working for a while now on a new list of flyable ships for Artemis. This is a work in progress (there is still some balancing work to do for these as well as textures to be finished). I have created the following ships for the game:
- Victory-Class Star Destroyer (Star Wars)
- Sovereign Class Starship, Enterprise E (Star Trek)
- Borg Cube (Star Trek)  <- Easiest model in history
- Defiant Class Starship (Star Trek)
- Cylon Base Star (BSG)

I've given each a reasonable armament for their established capabilities. The Sovereign and the Defiant are both very fast, maneuverable, with great shields and powerful weapons. However, once their shields are down, their hulls may as well be made of paper.

The Borg Cube is simply unfair. Very strong shields, very powerful beam weapon, fast moving, and lots of energy regen. It only has one weapon, with a slow rate of fire - but it doesn't matter much when you only need to fire once. Great for PVP play, if you have many vs. one.

The Star Destroyer is a different beast altogether. It is a slow hulk of a ship, with incredible energy regen (shouldn't need to visit a station for a long time). It has a number of missile batteries, and 8 broadside-mounted high rate-of-fire lasers. They aren't very powerful each, but by utilizing the rate of fire, you can achieve solid DPS. Great for taking on enemy fleets, and can take a solid pounding before having to retreat.

The Cylon Base Star is a special type of ship. Unlike the others, it is intended to be used with a jump drive. It has no shields at all, but a lot of system redundancy. No lasers, but a ton of nukes and missiles. It's a difficult ship to play, but if you're up for a challenge, it is a lot of fun!

Here is a link to download the zip file. Please feel free to try them out and let me know what you think! Just un-archive the zip file in your /dat folder. It contains a folder for each ship, and a modified version of the vesselData file.

Sounds great!  You should throw the Galactica in there to boot!

Do you achieve this by giving the Sovereign and Defiant a single node for each system, and a handful of nodes for passages, to make the total about 10-20? And the Base Star by getting as close to the theoretical maximum of 250 as you can? I'll note that some of the modders found that there is a bug that messes up the Engineering display if you have more than around 200 nodes or so.

Even with 10-20 nodes, a ship will be more robust that you might think. You've got to keep in mind that once shields are down, damage to nodes is counted in hits, and not beam damage. A beam or Homing Torp will only destroy one node, even if it does 200 damage.

Nukes and Mines are the exception. (They basically do 1.6 damage 100 times)

The last time I tried, nodes choked out after 128. It may have changed, since I haven't tried to build a fully fleshed out box in a while.

Moving this to Off Topic, where other non-Artemis IP mods go.

These problems may be due to my use of 2.4.0

Just loaded up and tried it out, the models look pretty good but the Victory Class has an issue or two. It is the only one I've tried flying yet, but on a level 1 siege against a Kralien cruiser it didn't go down after 429 beam shots and really even then, it only went down with eight torpedoes. There also appears to be an issue for the VSD where it is stocked with -92 torpedoes.

That may also just be the play style expected for it though.

I'll play around with the other vessels and report back when I can.
