I bought the game last night and had read posts that the game could be started on a server, then alt+tab out, start game again and I could connect as a crewmember. I haven't got that to work, is that possible?

Second, i have two kids and they are excited about this, what inexpensive laptop or tablet would you suggest for me to get them. I was wanting to get by under $250 total. They dont need a gaming machine, they can get a job if they want that kind of hardware, lol.

Start your first 'server' game as a windows 600x400 game. You wont need to alt-tab out. Run the game again and pick any other option, including full screen and connect a client using 'localhost' in the IP box.

See this thread https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/it-will-run-artemis-lenovo-ideacentre-stick-300-8249680?pid=1293589507
for a discussion on using low cost HDMI pc sticks as cheap console stations. All they need is wifi/blue tooth peripherals and a TV or monitor with HDMI input to plug into. If you have touch devices like an ipad or something you can use those too (anything smaller than a full ipad would be tough to use I suspect).

+1 to this. If you have a place you can get a hold of inexpensive monitors (computer recycler, or Goodwill) I'd say you can put together a station for $100-$150.

IIRC, the problem here is that when you tab out on a window or minimize it, Artemis stops running. It is probably not set up to run in the background.

As previous posts have advised, what you want is to run in in windowed mode so you can have both windows up and displaying at the same time. (You can cover one window with the other if you don't need to actually look at the second window while it is running)

I've gotten this to work by running the server windowed, and the client full screen windowed (not full screen).
