I was wondering if it was possible to modify ship properties like what beam weapons it has or number of torpedo tubes.  Essentially refitting a ship mid-mission.  Alternatively is there a way to tweak damage of just one system, for example upgraded beam damage, or increased beam range.

I've modified the vessel file which works wonderfully between games, I just want something that can modify mid game.  If so is there a reference out there that lists all of these?  I've loved everything in the mission-file-docs I just wanted a few more options.

Thanks!

In 2.4 it is possible to change configuration variables in scripts. This would normally effect all ships equally, but you could use the script to increase the variable when a particular enemy ship is in combat range. For instance, set nonPlayerWeapon to 200, and the enemy ship will do double damage. When combat is over, set it back to 100.

Setting difficulty level to 11 will also double the beam range, but the increase in damage and speed will probably be too much unless the script is already written for a high difficulty.

You really cannot change the beams of torpedo tubes of a player ship in mid-game. You *might* be able to delete a player ship and spawn a new one in its place. For example, delete a light cruiser and spawn a battleship. That could be interesting.

You could just go and mess with the vessel data. Make sure you save a back-up before you do, though, otherwise re-installing the game is the only way to get it back.

Also, keep in mind that changes to the vessel data apply to all ships from then on out, until you change the vessel data back.

Technically, you can add phasers and torpedo tubes, although I think there might be a limit as to how many torpedo tubes a ship can have, due to station screen layout and all.

Yes, changing vesseldata.xml can change ship stats significantly, but the stats still cannot change in the middle of a mission.

You could try creating a new ship in vesseldata.xml and swapping ships mid-mission. That might work. That is, start out the mission with Starship Artemis as a light_cruiser. When it's time for the refit, destroy the light_cruiser and in its place spawn a new Starship Artemis as refitted_light_cruiser.

Please let us know if this works.

As a note, the limit on beams seems to be about 32 and tubes is 6. You can spec more, they just won't show up or fire.
