Hi all!  Last year the modding "panel" was me just showing off one of my mods for a while, but it wasn't exactly what we'd call organized.  In an effort to get more organized, I'm actually making a mod for the workshop we're doing this year.

The plan is I'll distribute a set of files for everyone to look at and work into a mod.  We'll talk about the various ways you can mod Artemis, and the ways you can't.  The theme this year is "Artemis to Airships", and you can see one of the new modding ideas below!

This is fantastic! But as someone who is not a modder, would I be able to get something to or contribute to the session?

Like my other panels, I'll post everything online that can be posted. I can't exactly post a box of hardware from the DMX workshop, but I'll post the preservation. Likewise, I'll post all the files I used as well as the finished mod. The biggest difference is that I'm not planning on a specific presentation. I'm going to see if someone can film it, though, and get it posted online.

As far as being not a modder, I'm planning on starting from the point of view of someone who plays Artemis but hasn't seen any of the other tools available. The files I'll distribute at the event will include all the ones you'll need to mod, and a chunk of the presentation time will no doubt be on installing and using them.

If you want to participate, you'll need a laptop with Artemis 2.71.  I'll be providing a USB with files and additional programs, but if you want to get ahead of the curve, you can install the following:

Needed:
Ship Editor Tool 2.3.0 (from the Artemis downloads on the main site)
DeledCE (http://www.delgine.com/)

Optional:
Blender (https://www.blender.org/download/)
GNU Image Manipulation Program (https://www.gimp.org/downloads/)

I don't live in the United States and won't be able to make it to Armada IV. Is there a possibility to record the panel and put a video online so others can benefit from this panel as well?

I'll see what I can do!  no promises, but maybe we can set up a web cam in the back at least.

Status update - I found a game in development (Altostratus) that offered their models on the Unity Asset store, and I think their aesthetic fits this mod well.  So, I bought some lol

First stop, floating cities as bases!

  Then, armored dirigibles!

And heavily armored dirigibles 😃

Those are wonderful, Mark! Do you have bi-planes for the fighters?

I would really enjoy mission scripting for enemy surface ships that stay on a negative Y plane. That would be a blast!

It would be awesome to have ground to air combat capabilities from the enemies!

I like your idea here about modding. I’ve done some modding in the past. I’ll be at Armada. Past endeavors didn’t pan out well. I’m not looking to get too involved. I can offer some help if it’s wanted.

Due to my inability to not try and mod a game that’s mod-able, I tried down loading the Ship Editor 2.3 last week and the link was broken.

I like the “in atmosphere” skybox. I’ve only done a little scripting with Artemis. That pic gave me a sly grin when I thought of the possibility of entering an atmosphere for a mission. Then I stopped right there. As thoughts of, oh then we need planets and systems and moons. I’m fairly new to this and only recently got a few scripted missions to work. I look forward to this modding panel.

Thanks for the heads up about the link!  The website recently changed, and there have been a few things that got missed in the changeover.  I just let Thom know, and the link is fixed now.

All the relevant models have been converted!  First up, fighters.

There's a fair few, and yes, a biplane 😋

I tweaked the city a bit, the central tower will be the docking pylon

And more airships!

I need to create glow files, then internals, then crack through getting them in the vesseldata file.  I think I'll be restricting nukes and maybe warp drive for this one, we'll see.  It's mostly in terms of showing off all that modding can do, but it's also partly how the mod feels.
