March 10, 2020

To Armada 2020 Attendees:

Due to the influx of COVID-19 cases throughout the country, specifically in the Greater Cleveland area, the Armada 2020 Convention Committee has carefully come to the decision to postpone Armada 2020.

Mike DeWine, the Governor of Ohio, has issued a State of Emergency and is recommending not holding large gatherings at this time. We are working with the hotel to identify potential dates for Armada once the State of Emergency has been lifted.

We have decided to refund all participants because we have not yet determined the new date and we understand your availability might not be guaranteed for that weekend. You will be receiving a refund for your tickets by the end of this week.

We know many of you have been waiting 2 years for this Armada, and it frustrates us as much as you that we will be postponing Armada. After much thought and consideration, we believe this is a moral obligation due to the health concern that is facing us. We are looking forward to bringing you an awesome experience once it is safe to do so.

Sincerely,
Thom Robertson, Creator
Corey Wright, Con Director
2020 Armada Committee Members

Im saddened, but I know it was not an easy decision to make. I look forward to Artemis Armada V part 2: The Revenge!

As much as this saddens me... I do see a glimmer of a silver lining. I now have more time to put some really *interesting* things into the GM script!

Damn. OK, I'll offer free Nebula "Artemis in the cloud" servers for the whole of Armada Weekend if people want 'em. We can't see each others' fantastic bridges, but we could "take it online" like a lot of the tech conferences have done?

I am down for this.
Mike, Corey, what do you think?

Armada 2020 will be an in person convention just as soon as it is safe to do so.  Many of the events and war time activities are designed to take advantage of a full, live ballroom, and I don't see that getting translated online anytime soon, let alone by next weekend.

That being said, I think a massive online Artemis game time would be fantastic!  A really great way to connect with people, safely buffered by the network interface.

Hey,

We have started discussing ideas in the TSN RP Community to host some special open events for the Artemis community. We have lots of experience at online Artemis games and thought we could pool our expertise and resources to hold some events for the wider community. At the moment, the Senior Officer team (those who help run and manage the TSN) are coming up with ideas. We will look at putting together some special mission scripts for online team play, GMing special missions, and even having some other events online linked to Artemis. There will be a combination of games using Vanilla Artemis and our TSN Mod Artemis as well, so those without mods can still join in.

I'll keep everyone posted with what we are planning using the forums. It won't be Armada, but if we can pull it together, there will be some fun events.

Hope you can join us!

Recognising that it's NOT a replacement for a real in-person Armada, I in any case offered:

Nobody seems to have taken me up on this offer, but if you want an Artemis server-in-the-cloud this weekend, try to get hold of me on the USN Discord - https://discord.gg/3CgF9na - try pinging me personally if I'm not responding. I'll try to be online at most reasonable hours (EDT) but gimme a while!

Still might take you up on that offer Nick.

We have been thinking about hosting a weekend event for the Artemis Community using out TeamSpeak server for people to join.

Cool, see if you can get your crew(s) to hit https://ping.psa.fun/ and agree on which (non-gov) AWS region is fastest for you overall. If you want 2.7.5 Stock (or indeed earlier 2.7.X) I can fire one up fairly quickly. If you want any of the mods / missions, try to get hold of me further in advance (USN Discord is probably best) so we can double-check it works OK with the latest Nebula (some of the mods update their artemis.ini in slightly incompatible ways, but we can fix it given a bit more notice).

You provide the crew(s) and make sure they can communicate by voice and have all the same client version. I provide the server and will hand over a server IP and a URL you can browse to for remote control (Choosing game type, level, terrain / friendlies / etc and pressing start). Usually works best if each remote crew has a mainscreen of their own and a way to communicate with each other. Don't try to use the "remote control" as a mainscreen, it's best to browse away once you have clicked "start".

I have a few servers booked, but should be able to juggle multiple at once, and/or you can coordinate on USN Discord / elsewhere if you want big multi-ship games   :-)
