If I'm making a custom hullRace and I want it to be treated like Pirates (such that they can plunder surrendered ships for energy and torpedoes), what do I need to do?  Is it just the name="Pirate" that does it or ID="8"?  There isn't a specific key on the original pirates (just player and jumpmaster).

Unfortunately, it is the name "Pirate", although you only have to have that name somewhere in your race name. It can even be lowercase and you don't need a space to separate it so something like "Newpirates" would work.

For consistency, Thom should have defined a race key, but I tested it, and "pirate" in the keys section is not recognized. So it is definitely the name.

Note that whatever you name the race will not show up on the ship selection screen, so you will want to make sure that your description includes the race and class name. Once in the game, the race name always precedes the class name on the Science display.
