Many people have complained about the downtime of the tal.ki forums we've been using, but they always came back up for me, and they fulfilled my number-one requirement; they were very spam-resistant.

But this weekend, they went down and stayed down, and we all deserve better.

So here's our new hosted forums, unless the provider, http://www.websitetoolbox.com, fails us.

Please help me by re-posting important information from the old forums,
http://px2owffng8.embed.tal.ki
if they ever come back online.

That may not be possible. It looks like their DNS server took a flying leap:

I ran a traceroute on it... these are my results.

The traceroute I ran on tal.ki didn't resolve. When I ran it on their last good IP (which I got via OpenDNS) it resolved to OpenDNS's "Can't find a record for this page" site.

tl;dr Tal.ki is most likely down for the count.

Awww, that is sad to hear. I hope all of that info isn't lost forever.  But even if it is, we will rebuild!

Well, the old forum was terrible.  No local authentication, no topic in the window title, terrible narrow layout, constant email spam, etc.  Good riddance.  Hooray for new stuff.

Love the new forum, it's much nicer than the old one.  It's a shame that all the old content couldn't be migrated over, but I found a (somewhat limited) backup of the old forums is available from Archive.org, here's a link:

Looks like there will be many posts that will need to be recreated. I had just been reading up on DMX lighting....
Things I know I want to see recreated are:
the fellow building the engineering console with sliders controlled by andrino.
DMX basics
DMX lighting DIY options and instruction

and soooo much more.

Wow quite a shame that all the useful information was lost. I hope your sysadmin has learned his lesson and is now backing up your valuable data!!

It appears a LOT of this material is in the Google cache... for now.

https://www.google.com/search?btnG=1&pws=0&q=site%3Apx2owffng8.tal.ki : sets up the syntax needed to search the Google index for this particular forum.

You can select the little drop arrow to pick "Cached" and view the previous page. Grab the popular ones, quickly!

It appears that Warrick from https://code.google.com/p/warrick/wiki/About_Warrick could crawl the Internet Archive and Google cache to reconstruct the material from the forums, too. Don't have time to dig around in that at the moment...

Do you think we should start re-creating important posts ourselves, or would it be more polite to give the original authors some time to do so themselves? For instance, I think the Artemis Mod Loader is pretty important, but the creator of it was a regular poster, so I'd assume he'll be around soon and repost it himself, but I'd hate to lose it if he doesn't and the cached version disappears. (How long do they usually last?)

What's the normal etiquette here?

I got productive... for about 30 minutes. Started copying the Hardware and LBE construction forum as soon as the old 'came back.' The pages on the old were not formatted correctly so I did not see how many images were being missed,, or where. I do believe that I was able to get all the verbiage from several topics. Granted, they are fugly thanks to my quick and dirty grab, but .. well, no buts: I'll clean up my mess.

I can continue on the H/LBE forums (slowly) if there is not another method the (insert high mucky muck title here) plans to use for restoration.
