Just looking for some feedback on the event description I'm going to use for the convention. This is the first time Artemis will be at this primarily tabletop convention.

Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator

"The Terran Space Navy is seeking a new crew for critical wartime missions. Do you have what it takes to become a bridge officer on the TSN Confrontation? This storied vessel has a long and distinguished service record, playing pivotal roles in both the Skaaran and Kralien wars. Think you've got what it takes? Sign up today!

Artemis is a networked computer simulation of a starship bridge. Each participant plays a role: captain, engineer, helm, science, weapon, and communications. Test your leadership, teamwork, and communication skills in this challenging, cooperative game.

Our experienced staff of training officers will be here for your onboarding and initial recruit training."

Event time: 60 minutes

Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

The write-up looks good! Will you be running a time limited mission, or will you have a game master to make sure it ends on time?

My daughter and I will be the "training officers/GMs/Hosts" of the event. Plan right now is to bring them in, and I give them a very quick briefing about the idea of the game and the stations. We get them seated, and encourage them to begin playing around with the controls as the two of us go through and give them a short walk through of their station. Once training is complete, into a basic siege scenario, with either myself of her acting as XO to the ships captain, offering guidance or station assistance as needed, while the other goes back out front to stage the next group in. After that feet wet experience, then whatever time is left plug into a siege / double front / whatever for the remainder of time.

For second run through crews or ones with prior experience, I think a couple of story missions could be cool. I've seen a couple from Armada that would be good for that I think. Also a ton of Ardent story ones that are pretty good in my opinion. Straightforward, and definitely involve comms, which is a good thing.

But regardless of how things shake out they get the hour for their cruise. If they blow up, they get a new ship 😉

A GM'ed Intro scenario that could tutor the crew through a short engagement would probably be a helpful thing too. I should think about how that could work.
Always open to suggestions.

Here's my first pass at a room layout for the convention. Should be roughly to scale. I don't plan on using the fighters all of the time. They are just for periods where demand is high, I don't want to turn people away when they maybe only have this one hour to play. It will be my first convention running Artemis. Planning on getting a short throw projector, so I should be able to reduce the amount of space needed in front of the helm/weapons stations too. Just not sure how much yet.
Thoughts? Open to feedback and learning from others' experience, as always.

Events are in the system! No idea when go live is, but we've put in 12 x 1 hour slots, 8am-9pm on 2/20 and 2/21. Time to go continue to put more cowbell into the lights.

Bummed that I'm slowed down big time on the custom controls - my errors on the PCBs have made me slow down quite a bit before ordering new ones. Also life and all that crap keeps getting in the way.

But TOTALCON!!

This is exciting, e4mafia!

The custom controls will probably be wonderful, but at Armada we have found that custom controls are intimidating to new players. They are usually most comfortable if their first game involves a mouse and keyboard.

Your layout looks good. Just remember that since Engineering cannot easily see the Main Screen they won't get to contribute as much unless the Captain shouts a lot of orders. The Captain needs to tell them when to boost maneuvering, in particular, but also warp and beams. I actually prefer this, it means more interaction and less independence, but it also means that crews won't have as much fun when their Captain is inexperienced. Also, inexperienced Captains abandon their fighters a lot and often never figure out why the fighter players say they found the game boring.

I’ve also been considering setting up some kind of real world comms between the gm and the comma station, even for non GMed scenarios- a cool way to in game get info to the captain such as hey you just abandoned fighters - but in character as though the GM is radioing in from fleet command. For all scripted scenarios I plan to add in rudimentary gm controls to move/add/delete objects as well. For adding , have environmental and anomalies, a simple enemy drop a simple friendly drop and a simple utility/civilian drop

Seems fairly simple to tack that functionality on to the end of a script.

Thinking about a simple walk or talkie with single ear headset. What do you think?
Also now that I’ve got both my custom c++ /dmx translator arsuino lights AND some straight dmx all working together I plan to add maybe a Half dozen more simple dmx lights for various things.

The only panel that could potentially be done in time is weapons but I think other than engineering that would be the coolest one anyways.

There is {somewhere here, I think} a poster that sums it up nicely.  Bring Your Friends, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED THEM
