I was wondering if we have a guess as to when we can see the footage from Armada on Youtube? I know Doug's probably got his hands full trying to edit it when he can. [tongue] I participated in one of the canon battles and I'm excited to see it from the viewer perspective and share it with friends! [biggrin]

I am anxious to see this, too. I will see Doug next Tuesday if not sooner and ask about it.

Is there any news on this? I'm hoping it didn't disappear into a black hole somewhere...

Thank you for asking this!   I almost forgot about it!

I got a slightly disturbing update from Doug. Someone broke into his car and stole the laptop with all his footage and his work on this project. All is not lost, since he contacted Thom to get another copy of the raw footage. But unfortunately this will be another delay in the production. I'll keep you posted when I learn more.

Yikes!!!  Oh that sucks!!!  Sorry for Doug too!!  I bet the footage was the least of his worries!  At least Thom had another copy!  Yay for redundancy!!!

Oh, that's terrible! I hope Doug can recover his loss with his insurance.

Man that sucks. I back up every 3 to 6 months but even now there are hundreds of hours of work sat in the boot of my car.... Suddenly feel like I need to check it's ok. :s

Most laptop hardware costs very little: but insurance can't replace your data! Ugh.

A bit late, like closing the barn doors after the horse is out... but there is a decent low/no-cost theft protection software I can recommend called "Prey".

Visit http://www.preyproject.com to get started. There is a free plan. Highly recommended: my company puts this on every laptop we deploy.

And for backup: http://www.crashplan.com is another freebie, so long as you back up to other machines you own and not their cloud.

I keep telling myself I back up my stuff often enough. Then a hard drive crashes and I'm out a couple of months of stuff. It's be easier if I relied on automation to do it, but I only trust myself to back up what's important.

I use a program called "FreeFileSync" to make a backup of my profile folders. You can save the sync job with all the parameters you want into a batch file that can also be set to automatically shut down or go into sleep mode. So, when I'm finished with my computer for the day, I just click the icon to start the backup and walk away. Backup is done in a few minutes and the computer shuts down. It's very handy.

Can't agree with this enough.  I keep important stuff at home on a NAS.  The NAS' hard drives are arrayed in RAID5 so it can suffer a single hard drive failure... and then that NAS backs up to yet another RAID5 NAS since I've experienced a double-disk failure in a RAID5 setup before.  Multiple-drive failure in RAID5 = Total data loss.  Never has so much profanity been uttered.

Pro tip when seting up a RAID array, use Drives from different outlets, the chances of them being from the same batch are much reduced, therefore reducing the chance of a simultaneous or close to simultaneous failure. of couse RAID 5 cant detected bit rot. BTRS is looking interesting though but not exactly willing to trust data to it just yet [tongue]
