Here is the basic structure of the node - the first half of the node block is important, the second half is padding.  I'm not sure whether it's big endian or little endian, but I'll let you figure that out from the screen shot [tongue]

The first three chunks are translated as floats (X Y Z), and determine the location of the nodes themselves.  Note - this is relative to the model file - if the model file is 700 units long in DeledCE and centered, and the first node is at -350 Z, then it should line up with the back of the ship.

The fourth chunk is what determines the function of the node - nothing, hallway, or one of 10 systems.  The different node options (No Node, Empty Node, Primary Beam, Torpedo, Tactical, Maneuver, Impulse, Warp, Front Shield, Rear Shield, A, B) have different hex values (FE FF FF FF, FF FF FF FF, 01 00 00 00 ... 09 00 00 00 respective

Adjacent nodes are connected by lines, whether adjacent in X Y or Z.  The nodes are simple listed sequentially from <X Y Z> <0 0 0> to <4 4 9>, and every SNT file has all 256 nodes listed, whether they have nothing or an actual node there.  The nodes increment first in Z, then in Y, then in X.

There is a limit of 128 total nodes of the 256 possible node locations.

Note - the screenshot is from the BlockByteEditor that RussJudge came up with.  hope this helps!

Once you figure this tool out, it makes building custom .snt files really easy (although, to me, number entry can get a bit tedious).

Question: How do I add hallway nodes? When I go through the possible nodes, the only non-engineering system nodes are A and B. But, if I use either of those the file crashes. Is it not possible to add hallways?

Hallway nodes are what I called "empty nodes" (as opposed to "No node"). Set the node value in the integer field to -1.

(No Node is -2)

Is there no way to get a blue dot named hallway?

No - that's not how it is in the stock game, so there's no way to do it here. When you set up the template file, you could rename the node associated with -1 to be named "hallway", but Artemis doesn't generate a blue dot for hallways, just a white line intersection.

Try loading a stock Artemis .snt file into the editor for reference - that should help clear it up.

Thanks. My mind's eye was convinced there was a blue dot for hallways. Thanks for the help or I'd have kept going forever looking for them...

Does anyone have a copy of this hex editor?  The dropbox links from russ don't work anymore.

Just to be safe, I mirrored it here: https://bit.ly/BlockByteEditor
