Also, I've never tested what happens when less than three taunts are defined. I'm guessing if one is defined, it is automatically chosen as the "immune" one. If two are defined, it's a 50/50 chance. If you can leave out taunts completely, then you might be able to eliminate them entirely.

On the other hand, the game might crash with no taunts. This calls for some experimentation...

Thanks for the detailed reply, ryleyra. I will try and erase the taunts entirely and see what happens!

OK, so I tried erasing all three taunts for all races, then launched a "siege" game and tried sending a comms message to enemy ships. The program crashed ^^

So erasing the taunts messages altogether is not an option. I think I'll stick with replacing them with "DO NOT CLICK HERE!" [smile]

Yeah, unfortunately my testing showed that the number of taunts cannot be changed. If you specify less than three taunts, the game locks up with you select Comms. When you specify more than three taunts, the game crashes on initial load. So there have to be exactly three taunts, no more, no less.

I'm guessing the Comms screen is hardcoded, so you have to match the number of slots on that screen exactly.

Of course if you eliminate all taunting from the player ship then you eliminate 50% of the Communications Officer's job. I know the taunts are light hearted and a bit silly; I wrote them. The very idea of taunting an enemy captain (really a squadron admiral, since the entire fleet will follow the taunted ship) is extremely silly. There isn't a way to make taunting serious. But taunting is a lot of fun for the communications officer, and sometimes for the entire crew.

Besides, captains taunt each other all the time in sci-fi.

"Khaaaaaaaannnnnn!" [smile]

It should be a piece of cake to edit the taunts to make them darker. Also, I really didn't expect the game to work with taunts edited out (although it would have been nice if the game had "recovered gracefully") but I was kind of hoping the odds could be changed by adding more taunts. And defining only a single taunt would be something like "Hail", since it would automatically fail and be ignored. That could be used for neutral enemies like Biomechs.

Just an idea, though.
