I've been meaning to experiment with this for a while. I'm working on including the UIs from the Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica mods, but they would only be used for the Enterprise and Galactica respectively. For the other ships, I want to make sure the players can switch back to the original interface. Since I'm working with UIs anyway, I thought I would recreate the more generic and not as "flashy" interface from Artemis 1.7 and earlier versions.

This interface will be included in the Strike Force Seven mod, but I thought I would also post it here, for use as a separate mod to Artemis. For those who have never played the 1.7 version of Artemis, it can be a nice look at how the game used to look and feel. Although there are some limitations to what I can do with the interface, I think I've done a pretty good job of recreating the look of the old interface, and I'm very happy with it.

This mod is attached in this post. To use it, download the zip file, and extract the folder, in the dat folder for best results. All you then need to do is back up the stock installation (or just the files listed in the folder) and then copy the files from the folder into the dat directory. Start up Artemis, and see what has changed! [biggrin]

I'm also seriously considering recreating the interface from Artemis 1.0. I've wanted to do that since even before 2.0. I'll note I'm not recreating the ships or the gameplay from those previous versions, just the interface. Everything including fighters will still work as in the current game.

If you want the full experience, include these files. It will change the icons on the Science, Helm and Weapons screens to match 1.7's look and feel. Essentially, all asteroids, mines, monsters and black holes will appear as circles, the same as bases. The "jagged" asteroids and other unique icons were introduced in Artemis 2.0.

I'm not going to include this in Strike Force Seven. There is one kind of odd issue with it, due to how black holes are displayed now. In Artemis 1.x, the black hole was a large ring with a tiny ring inside it. Artemis 2.x has the black hole as a "star" ring with a second ring just inside it, but the inner ring is much bigger than the one in Artemis 1.x. Because I tried reproduce the tiny ring, the Black Hole now shows four concentric rings, each getting smaller. [biggrin]

Still, it wasn't my intention to reproduce 1.7 exactly. It's kind of neat to have the icons look so consistent.
