Great!  I'm really looking forward to meeting a lot of folks from the forums.

The panel will probably be ~45 minutes to an hour total, depending on how the presentations and questions go.  In my (admittedly corporate) experience, it's easy for 5 slides to take anywhere from 2 - 20 minutes, so it can be hard to gage [tongue]  The plan is for the panel to run 30-40 minutes plus time for questions, and then the workshop after.  Both are slotted for an hour (I think starting at 10 on Saturday, although I need to confirm).

This'll hopefully be a good place to learn [smile] we should have a nice range of solutions presented at the panel from 100% off the shelf to pretty deep diy. I don't know if we'll be getting into the DMX mechanics much, but we'll probably at least touch on it. I'll make sure to have some slides on it at least.

Sounds great! I would be interested in attending the panel/workshop, getting the basics down.

Great!  I hope we can have a decent turnout for the panel at least.  Workshop supplies are probably limited to 5 or 10 folks, so we'll see who stays.

Hey all! We had a pretty good turn out at the panel, although there was apparently some miscommunication about where and when it was. Still, 10-15 people let me ramble on for close to an hour about lights and electronics [smile] I'll add a few slides to the presentation about some of the questions that came up, then I'll post it here.

It was really fun putting some faces to names!

Thanks for the panel, Mark!  I'm Will Phillips, I was in the second row, off to your right.  Captain of the USS HOW2STARSHIP???.

I got far more out of this panel than I actually planned to.  I had seen what the Bellisarius crew was doing with DMX, and then your talk got the gears turning.  I've got big plans now!  Good stuff.  Expect to be spammed with obnoxious questions once I start buying parts!

Fantastic! I'm really glad you enjoyed the panel, and hammer away with questions as soon as you have some [smile]

I'll try to get the amended presentation up sometime tonight.

So sorry to have missed it!  Would loved to have been there but just lost track of time and schedule!  Really great to meet you and thank you for all of your help online with my DMX set up!

It was great to meet you too!  Hopefully we'll have more time to be around and chat at Armada 2 [smile]

As promised, here is the presentation (with a few extra slides at the end based on some questions):
The Power Point!

The PDF Version!

Thank you so much! I'm fairly technically literate and am pretty good with google, but DMX has been a huge source of confusion for me. Im sure this will help me take the next step of adding DMX lighting to my bridge.

Hey y'all - I'll be running my DMX panel again this year with a bonus:

2 panels!

That's right, one panel on Friday and another on Saturday.  We're aiming to have them at different times on the two days, although the schedule isn't finalized yet.  I'm going to be going over the DMX basics, how to set up and modify a set of commands, and some lower cost alternatives to the ENTTEC Open (at the cost of some elbow grease).  If you went to my panel last year, it'll be pretty similar, just updated with some new info.

We'll also have a bridge show and tell later on Saturday - I'm going to be organizing that separately with some of the fancy bridge folks.  (Note - if you've got a fancy bridge, PM me.  If you're not sure if your bridge is fancy, PM me anyways [tongue] )

Note for the bridge parade - I'll be hosting it, and I'm going to try to keep it mostly one way; i.e. bridge builders talking about their bridges, not a lot of time for questions.  That's what the panels are for! [smile]
