I was going to ask how you got the touch panel to display images till I realized you had simply pulled the guts out of a regular LCD monitor to easier mount it in your custom housing.

Despite my mental hiccup AMAZING build!

Yeah I probably should have explained that [tongue] Just a normal old 15" LCD monitor.

Thanks [smile]

Just need to add to all the gushing praise here. That console is amazing.
It must make the rest of the crew jealous when you ruck up at a game meeting with that thing?
I imagine I would be fiddling with the LCARS panels in between action moments, probably making irritating beeping noises... [wink]

Hey Guys,
I made this video to hopefully answer some questions about how the LCARs panels are done.

Outstanding builds! Would you be willing to provide dimensions or a panel layout diagram for your silver laptop table?

Yeah sure, I'll do some measurements and some drawings when I get home.

So these plans are for what I should have done and not necessarily what I did do [tongue] The reason I built the table the way I did was because those are the materials that I had.

The best MDF to use is 18mm thick to make the table rigid enough.
Here you can see all of the pieces required to make the table.

This picture hopefully gives an idea of how the pieces fit together.

All edges were rounded using a router bit.
Wood filler was used to fill in all of the gaps, imperfections, and screw holes.
For the finish, the table was sanded with various grades of sandpaper, then spray primered, then sprayed silver, then sprayed clear coat. - It should still look pretty cool even if you just sand then use silver paint, just not as smooth.

One extra thing. I did re-enforce the join of the slanted pylon to the top and base, but i think if you use 18mm MDF, and use screws and wood glue, it should be fine. Just don't use it as a seat.

Hopefully this helps. Please ask questions if not!

Right, more progress. I still need to paint the top obviously. Also waiting for the touch screen overlay to arrive. But I've done the LCARS panels and I'm really happy with them.

Where oh where did you get the lighting for the LCARS panels?  I want to build one for Halloween.

This looks so awesome. Really jealous of you guys with the skills to pull this kind of thing off. My engineering skills start and end at changing light bulbs, and if I'm honest I tend to crack the light fittings most of the time.

I actually live in China, so I guess it would be cheaper to make here, but I really wouldn't know where to begin.

How did you make the Star Trek Next Gen looking buttons and displays either side of the console monitor?

I did a google search for LCARS and photoshopped together an A4 sheet size page, then printed on transparency paper.

I'm bumping this because it is what inspired me to build my bridge
