Clearly, "goodwill" damage was done to the community. That's pretty sad, especially considering it was done by someone in an official position; and that the resolution would have been so simple.
I'm very curious to see thé design elements that ended up in his 'business' bridge.

I helped Brian set up the Gen Con Artemis event this year.  (And last year for that matter too.)   From what I saw and helped with, I don't think any bridge designs were used that were not his own.  Much of what he used from last year was used this year, with the exception of the "Forge" which is essentially the "War Server" and all of the electronics.  Joe Greene used much (if not all) of his electronics and systems to get the Artemis room going.  Without Joe, it would not have happened.  (and almost didn't at one point as far as I can tell)

This is probably a good indicator.

If the guy started a contest, got submissions, and vanished off the planet, you can probably assume that any rights he had to those entries are null and void as he breached the contract (he owns the designs if he holds the contest).

Furthermore, a guy who just drops off the planet, isn't likely doing anything, let along secretly using someone's best design to build the penultimate bridge for GenCon.

Which again, has been proven to not happen based on longbow's report of "same as last year"

It sucks that the contest died.  Heck, it sucks that the terms about ownership existed, which I remember questioning when the contest was announced.  And folks apparently submitted anyway, which I would not have recommended until the ownership terms were tamed down.

so a) submitters should have read the terms and been comfortable with giving ownership in the first place
b) the contest runner hasn't likely got any leverage to prove ownership or enforce any rights over your designs anyway
c) moveon.org

I don't think the contest is necessarily dead. Thom has the entries and is seeking a new judge to replace Brian.

No joke. Especially considering the significant advances this community has made in bridge design since this thing started.

Some of my local crew had a conversation with Thom Sunday. Among other things we need a good looking bridge for canonical battles at Artemis Armada Two, and this contest could be a good place to start. We may have found a volunteer who will step up to replace Brian in judging this contest and distributing the prizes.

I understand, Notsabot, that this community has made amazing advances in bridge design. Nevertheless, for Armada we still need a good looking bridge that it super-portable, super durable, and can be stored in a small space.

Are you going to allow new submissions? If so I've got some ideas. What is the budget for a con bridge? Do you want it to incorperate existing equipment or will new equipment be purchased for the bridge?

Haha, if it's reopened after all this time there are a couple of additions I'd like to make to my own entry!
