Hello,

I recently downloaded the demo to test if it runs on our network but when I launch the game and click "Start Server/Client", it tells me this version of the game is too old and I need to visit the website. I've attached a picture of the message.

There doesn't seem to be any other demo to download other than 1.66. I'd like to test the game before purchasing it.

Kind Regards,
Rob

Are the server and client the same version?

I don't get as far as setting up a server. I get the main menu screen, click "Create Server" and it tells me this version of the game is "too old".

Hmm- I got the same thing today.  Tried both server and client, no error messages, just says the game is too old and I need to visit the site to get a new one.   The screen says version 1.6, and I tried downloading and installing the update but now change.

Anybody know whats up?

Thanks!

So I did some testing and found that if I set my computers clock to any date in 2013 the demo starts working. There must be some installer setting to not allow the game to run past 2013. I guess the demo version needs updating to allow it to work in the new year.

Can this be updated?

Confirmed.

You can install the demo, no problem, but when you try to run it, upon selecting either "Start Server" or "Start Client", the Artemis DEMO (v 1.66) complains that it is too old and tries to get you to buy the FULL version.  It looks like it is a limiter based on date to keep you from using the DEMO version indefinitely, and because it is now 2014, the DEMO version is now inoperable.

So, the work-around, to get the DEMO to play, would be to set your PC's clock back to 2013.

I suggest that when updating the DEMO to fix this issue, make the limit based on install date (say, limit the user play for the DEMO to one month), instead of a hard-date.  That way it can continue to be used by new prospects.  Granted, uninstalling and re-installing would get around that limit (unless you stored the install date in the Registry), but it would be annoying enough to encourage purchase for most--plus, if kept at an old version (like now, where it is version 1.66, and the FULL version is 2.0), that would give even more incentive to buy the FULL version.

Sorry, folks.  You're right, I put in a time limiter a very long time ago, and now we've hit it!  I'll update the demo soon.   Thanks for your patience!

Please count this as a "Me Too".

When I try to workaround by changing dates on my computers, I lose connectivity with my router/internet too easily. Might be a firewall thing, but cant get it to work.

I hope the demo update happens soon! [bawl]

Any status on the demo refresh? I'm not real keen on messing with the time on my PC but want to learn the controls before I play at an event at work next week. I'm very excited about this and am pretty sure I'll be purchasing the game to play with friends too.

Same boat (ship) here. No one wants to drop coin without seeing it work for themselves here. I, as the tech guy, have some concerns, and want to sandbox it before I set it up for live play.

I realize this is a labor of love, so no rush.

I relented and made the purchase. Part of my decision was based on the demo being version 1.7 and I wanted to see 2.0 on action. A big part of my decision was based on the author offering a money back guarantee. I haven't been disappointed. I have had a few issue with the server crashing on my desktop but it runs fine on my laptop.

That's a good point. Will a 2.0 demo be released?

Any update? I ran into the same thing last night after just learning about Artemis and getting very excited about trying it out.

My suggestion is to buy a copy off Steam and try it out that way, If it looks like something you will enjoy then buy the $40 bridge license.

An Artemis 2.1 demo just went up, so you might want to try that.
