My current server is a Core 2 Duo based Dell T3400 Precision Workstation with a nVidia GTX 460 PCI-e 2.0 card. It cruises along at a good bit under 40 FPS.

The Dell Latitude E6420 and E6220 laptops sitting next to it with a Core i5 CPU and onboard Intel graphics easily keep up and often blow it out of the water, hitting 300+ regularly.

The CPU load on the Core 2 Duo machine hits 30% for Artemis.exe; on the Core i5 it's 15%.

Is Artemis really THAT CPU dependent?

I suspect that Thom hasn't written the engine to use basically any fancy GPU offloading tricks.  To keep it simple (and running on older machines without graphics cards), it probably just uses the simplest approach.  If he decides to create a newer version of the engine with options to offload to GPU's, then I think those of us with high power boxes would be pretty excited.

Remember that Artemis only uses DirectX 9.0 with Shader Model 2.0 (per the FAQ on the Artemis home page.)

This covers video cards from as far back as 2002 (eg: ATI Radeon 9700.)

I use my graphic card control panel to fine tune the graphics a bit. Could be a way for you to utilize some more of your GPU potential. I feel like it made a pretty big difference in the graphic quality of the game, though of course that is completely subjective.

I am very happy the games runs on older hardware and software. I'm able to provide "consoles" to my friends by using what would otherwise be out of date laptops.
