I can attest to there being at least some weight to that. I'm the one who found Artemis, so I get to be Captain. [biggrin] I think my step-daughter wants to try out the Captain's chair, though, so I may give her the chance when I don't feel like being in charge.

We also have yet to try rotating crew roles. Part of the problem is that most of my crew is terrified of the other consoles. My Weapons officer in particular won't play anything else. [biggrin]

As part of the crew in the Steam video, I can safely say that the bridge set had more in common with TOS than you might think - mostly grey plywood and a few afternoons of painting and assembly. Plus it's modular, so it packs away nicely. This probably wanders into the LBE topic area, but there's always support for bridge videos!

Speaking of which, maybe we need more videos at Mike's Artemis parties....

Last September during the big Fan Expo convention in Toronto I had my best crew so far, a Chilean family visiting Toronto, dad was on comms, sons and daughters were staffing the other stations and Mom was Captain. Let me tell you this, she ran a tight ship and you had better get her orders right otherwise you were gonna hear about it [biggrin]. The entire family had a great time playing and I was beside myself with laughter from their interactions.

Suffice it to say that the Family that Bridge's together, stays together

HAHA Awesome...

A new trailer with a female Captain could be an idea, since it'd appeal to both males and females.

I do remember reading some sales data that said most female gamers tend to use mobile platforms where as males spend more on AAA titles in venues like Steam. Artemis is on tablet, but not sure what version is currently available?

That's a great idea. Now that Doug has that awesome new technology for capturing so many video screens at the same time, I bet we could make some great training videos!

And a new trailer with a female captain, or even an all female crew, should be a piece of cake. I like the Project Draco videos very much, but the game has changed a lot in the three years since they were shot.

MarkBell, how would you feel about constructing a cockpit for a hotshot female fighter pilot? [smile]

Getting back to the original purpose of this discussion, the official Artemis Armada II photographer's photos are all available here:

http://armada.eochu.com/?page_id=450

I am pleased to see that the photo gallery gives evidence of the number of women who attended. Only one of the crew photos depicts an all-male crew. Of the rest, most of the crews include at least two women.

Also note that some of the aliens in costume are women, even though you might not be able to tell.

In most of the events that I have run so far women show a strong interest in the game, some of them in fact have been the quickest learners on all stations, specially Engineering.

I posted an event on our FB group yesterday and out of 11 people showing interest 2 are women. So I would say that even if it isn't split down the line 50/50 women still have a significant presence in the Artemis echosystem.

Love the Artemis Armada pictures!  Our group almost made it this year and probably will next year.

I'm very glad to see that this thread prompted the kind of discussion I might have hoped for.  There are places where you can get shouted down for even broaching the subject of gender, and here people were bringing up useful points.

I hadn't thought about the gender differences in platform, for example!  It's interesting to contemplate whether the mobile version staying out of date can have an indirect impact on which demographics start playing the game.  Our group almost went with Quintet when the cross-platform links were so much easier, except we found that Artemis is just plain better at making us feel like the crew of a starship.
