Is there a way to change how the ship reacts to the helm controls while in an area?

What we want to be able to do is cause the ship to react oppositely from what it should  forward is reverse and left is right.  But only within a defined area.

"Mirror, Mirror" indeed.

I'm not sure this can be done seamlessly. You can reposition the ship based on the forward speed, but I'm not sure how to do it that wouldn't be really jumpy. Left/right would also be tricky... I think maybe you could detect a deviation from the ship's current angle and then use set/add property to counteract it, but... hmm. It would probably be very jerky.

The other thought I had would be you can reverse the joystick controls by editing the artemis.ini file, but I think you'd  have to shut down and restart Artemis to change it, and that would be exceedingly klunky.

Hmm. Maybe hide a generic mesh under the player ship and then use Set Position to change the angle of the ship... but then I'm not sure how you'd reverse forward movement.

I had thought of the re-positioning the ship, but realized the jumpiness of this, and that's not really what I wanted to accomplish.

And reloading the game mid mission to reverse the controls not really practical.

Hey you never know unless you ask.

Thanks

Wow, this is an intesting problem!

You might be able to roll the player ship upside-down and keep it that way as long as it is in the area. I think the Artemis software will not flip the map upside-down, so effectively the steering would be reversed. Maybe this would work?

I fiddled around with that, and it looks like setting the pitch or roll on the player ship doesn't really work.

So I thought... what if you could rotate or horizontal flip the monitor? There are some programs out there that can be executed via a command line by using "Launch External Program". Display can be used to flip the screen 180 (upside down). UltraMon can be used to do a horizontal flip, and I think it can be executed via command line. However, I think this would only work on the server monitor... I'm not sure you can launch an external program on a client. Depending on how your crew uses the main screen, they may not notice it's been flipped... most crews don't use it for navigation, and some just use it for the captain's map.
