I have about two months to make minor ui graphics and sound changes, as a kind of gift for a friend that is a huge fan of Star Trek ToS, I am of course trying to set up a small artemis event for them. I've played around with the mods and I really like Mark's 50th anniversary mod, which handles the graphics really well.

However, I'm looking to see if I can push it a little further.

What I'm looking to do:

1. Replace some of the sound files for beams, torpedoes, and button presses. This I'm already familiar with for file types needed and naming, I've already set-up my red-alert, torpedo, phaser, and hull damage sounds but my question comes in at the buttons, I know from the .ini that the sounds used are pulled from the testIUSoundXX files, but I don't know what buttons they correspond to, if any. So, do the ui sound files just get pulled at random or are there certain consoles with certain buttons that always use the same file? It matters to me because my source of the sounds, TrekCore, that wonderful site, only has so many ToS sounds that fit a button press, so I can really only replace some of the sounds with unique Trek effects without overdoing any single one. I am also confused by every testIUSound after 06 being partial, and again I'm uncertain as to whether or not I should even replace them.

2. In my mind, the more difficult portion, take the ui and just give it a more ToS like feel, more likely than not, just recolor the ui .png files under the dat folder. I'm not entirely clear on exactly how the .png files work, if there are certain layers or shapes that must be retained, are there any? Additionally, is anyone aware of some references for ToS consoles? I'm at least looking to get color patterns similar to them.

I figured out most of the cues were a while ago, although I don't remember what 22 and 26 ended up being: https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1279203590&postcount=38&forum=309501

As for the png files, don't forget that png supports transparent alpha channels, which is how you get the clear portions of the buttons. The TNG LCARS UI was partially cribbed from existing assets, largely made from scratch by me and another forumite.

For TOS inspiration, you might check out LCARS GFX https://lcarsgfx.wordpress.com/2013/12/21/merry-christmas-everybody/ and https://lcarsgfx.wordpress.com/2014/12/16/just-an-eggbox-with-penciles-for-nacelles/ - it's got a lot of that TOS feel and color palette [smile]

Thanks! hopefully I'll have the UI mock up done in two weeks or so.

And once again, thanks for working on and providing great mods like the anniversary and TNG mods.
