Possibly this has been documented. A quick search didn't turn up anything for me.

I am working on a bridge setup that has a monitor on either side of the mainscreen. My intention is to provide the option to display informational screens (e.g. Captain's Map / DATA / LRS) and possibly let players switch between them.

A minor quibble is that the screen we know in game as TAC is called DATA in the selection menu.

The bug I'm seeing is:
  • If I select DATA and do not select a higher item in the list (i.e. Main Screen, Helm, Weapons, Engineering, Science, Comms)
  • When the game starts and the screen opens, the TAC (DATA) display comes on, but no tabs are visible except the Options tab that takes you back to the console choice screen
This happens in separate windows on the same machine and on separate machines. It also happens if DATA and any of the lower items in the list are selected (i.e. Observer, Captain's Map, Game Master), but no higher items.

The workaround is to select any preceding console in the list. The obvious choice being Main Screen. The potential problem with that is that lower spec machines may not handle the mainscreen view well - the reason that the option to remove the VIS tab for players was added.

The DATA screen has no tabs. Players are expected to use the space bar to toggle between DATA displays. (TAC, LRS and INFO)

Presumably, the reason for this was so a data display would look like a stand alone data panel, i.e., there is no reason to show other tabs. (In particular, why would you want an LRS tab on the DATA display when it is showing the LRS?) You would use the space bar to set up the preferred screen for each instance and then not have to change it again.

I'll note that it is also possible to display TAC, LRS and INFO by using an additional Mainscreen, and then using User McUser's Mainscreen View Manager to lock it, as found here: http://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/mvm-mainscreen-view-manager-7470121

Honestly, I'm not sure why the DATA screen does not show tabs, but Mainscreen does. Probably because the ability to play multiple ships was added first, and the DATA screen later.

Aha! I didn't realize that the DATA screen worked that way.  It just seemed to be stuck on TAC.  This information pretty much gives me the functionality that I was looking for.  Thanks, ryleyra! [thumb]

My intention (assuming five players in a row or semi-circle with Helm in the middle) is to have the left pair of players share control of of the left Data display and the right pair of players share control of the right Data display.  Another option would be to give Comms control of both.

I'll need to see if I can rebind that to middle mouse button or use joy-to-key so that I don't have to set whole extra keyboards out.

As far as I know there is no keybind assigned to the spacebar, so you can't change it. You can use joytokey or macro programs, though.

As I said, I believe the intention is to leave each Data screen on a given dedicated display. I've seen a good use of it with a TAC screen between Helm and Weapons, directly below the Mainscreen. I've also thought of using a dedicated INFO screen in an "Engineering Room". Instead of LRS, probably the Captain's Map on a big wall display would be a better choice.

I like giving each side their own display, though. Helm often needs a TAC or VIS display when the Mainscreen is taken up with something else. And I can see the screens being used like those overhead screens on the original TOS Enterprise bridge.
