So, the game hangs upon launching invasion mode if the biomech race is excluded from vesseldata, and also if it's fleet_ai commonality is set to 0.  Is the game hardcoded to use this type?  It's pretty neat, but is there a way to disable it?

A thought might be, if you are using this for the TNG mod, would be to rename  the biomech race "Borg", and keep the same ID.  If it works, it'll solve your problem rather neatly.  My guess is that the Artemis code in Invasion mode specifically looks for the biomech race to generate ships for it.

If true, then a fix for Thom to add would be to simply skip any races and vessels that are expected, but not found, and only stick to what is found in the vesselData file--such check is probably not being done.

That's pretty much what I'm planning on.  The behavior is just a little surprising, since 1.7 didn't count on enemy elites or support being part of the vesseldata file, and would just load whatever you had in it.  It could be that the biomech evolution code is different enough that it's being depended on somewhere.
