Hi,

== Introduction ==

My group of friends already meets every Saturday for board game night, usually gathering 5-7 people, and I just found out about and purchased Artemis last week. Everyone really enjoyed our first time.

Already have a T-Flight HOTAS for helm.
I just made weapons controller and the AHK scripts for it:

[ZVuvbYfh]
(still going to add some colored borders to most of the buttons, but my colored markers are in my other car).

And tomorrow one of these will arrive in the mail:

Big thanks to davr and CaptainFelix for making their code available on GitHib.

Really looking forward to our second Artemis session.

== End Introduction ==

On to the real question:

I imagine as new players, we should spend some time with the stock game to experience everything it has to offer and get a feel for what would be a good change before installing mods that change gameplay in any way.
However, I imagine any purely graphical mods to increase texture resolution/model polygons/etc could only be beneficial. I am having a hard time finding an up to date list of graphical-only mods.

I was also wondering if there are any gameplay-affecting mods that could be considered solely beneficial, i.e. we would not lose out on anything by never playing the game without those mods.

Thanks,
pavlvs

There really aren't that many mods that are GUI improvements. There is a selection of skyboxes available for download that are higher resolution than the stock skyboxes. But the only planned mod that would have increased the resolution of the ships never got off the ground.

Dang! jumping in with both feet! Nice! please keep us up to date on your bridge build. I love to see people's projects.

As far as graphics mods go:

Here is a how to on improving overall graphic quality in Artemis that I posted awhile back. It uses the NVidia control panel to smooth out edges and to make things look better in general.

https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/how-to-improve-graphics-with-gpu-control-panel-7812328?pid=1290093735

There is also a Star Trek TOS mod that someone was working on a LONG time ago that has some really cool asteroids in it that are a huge improvement over the games "Cocoa Puff" asteroids. The mod itself was never really completed, but you can use the Asteroid models from it by transferringthe files "aster2" , "asteroids.dxs" and "asteroidTexture" from the mods dat folder to the Dat folder of your vanilla Artemis. download link is at the bottom of the first post.

The WSD mod is also a really great way to up the graphic quality in the base game. It is actually a full conversion mod that pretty much touches everything in the game making enemies more difficult, giving more enemies the ability to shoot drones and replaces all of the enemy models with completely different and higher res models. While the mod does pretty much change everything, the tactics used to play the game are still very much Artemis and it shouldnt be much of an adjustment to go from Vanilla Artemis to the WSD mod, save that there will be more drones and that the enemy will be tougher (them Krelians, normally speed bumps in Artemis, put up a pretty good fight.). It also includes some really cool skyboxes based on our solar system. The DL link on the first post has been update for Artemis 2.4

If you want skyboxes with a little more of a classic space look, here is my favorite skybox a reddit user made. I use it as a base for all the skyboxes my crew uses in our local games.

Those are the best graphical mods that I know of.

Thanks for the detailed reply Notsabbat. Your bridge build is one of the first threads I saw on here, and it's awesome.
I don't really have any further plans for ours, other than I have a Planar POS touchscreen sitting around I will probably try out on Weapons as well.

Getting rid of the "cocoa puff" asteroids sounds good [smile]

Thank you! Someday it will be where I want it. I hope its helpful. Those mods are pretty much the first thing I do when I get a new version of Artemis. Hope you like them and yeah...the cocoa puffs looking like an actual chunk of rock helps a lot.

That engineering control is awesome, I'm really looking forward to hearing about your experiences with it.

@pvlvs. creator of the WSD mod here Now that school is out, I have some extra time I'm looking to fill. I would be happy to put together a wsd package that is just the graphics overhauls, but leaves the base game intact. If you're interested, let me know.

Wow, that is a very generous offer.
I will look over everything the mod entails and probably try it out.
Wouldn't want you to have to do all that work just for little old me [smile]

+1 very interested in a nonchangatory (its a word now!) graphical upgrade.

Well, you're all in luck. School year is over, so I don't have to get up and go to work. I'll work on putting together a graphics enhancement version that doesn't change the game mechanics at all.

Check out my new thread, "cxfAtheus' Mod Locker." It's the new home for my mods...but more importantly, it contains a link to my nonchangatory graphical upgrade. Enjoy.
