For the past 2 years, I've created a new scripted mission that we've run at Norwescon in the Spring, where the mission accommodates two full bridges (including fighters if desired), plus some Away Team mission in the middle of it whereby the captain of one of the ships has to decide which crew to send off on an away team mission.  Generally spectators get promoted to fill the vacated bridge positions, allowing even more people to participate.  Last year's Away Team mission involved playing "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" to defuse a bomb.

This (third) year, I'm getting even more ambitious and working on an Augmented Reality phone app that can be used like a Tricorder.   When certain images are recognized, something else such as scan results, can be overlaid on top of that image.   Currently I'm testing it with recognizing the 5 images in the Artemis poster set, and overlaying info on top of them.

When Norwescon organizers heard about it, they're considering using it for a con scavenger hunt as well, so I'm making it capable of easily plugging in different image sets for different events.   If others who run Artemis at conventions would be interested, let me know what your requirements would be, and whether someone wanting to add an image set for a new event would consider having to pay (not a per participant basis, I want the app itself and consuming image sets to be free).   I will have an Artemis demo event built in that just recognizes some stock Artemis images, to allow for anyone play with it for free.

Also, so far it's Android-only... could be iPhone in the future, especially if there's interest in others wanting to pay for it, but currently it's not for iPhones just because iPhone apps require a Mac to compile it on, and I don't have a Mac.

could be neat to have some 3d printed semi universal "tricorder" phone cases created. something that allows for the camera to be used, the screen to be seen and the user to hold it like a scanner, maybe that is getting too fancy with it but you could pop a mirror in the print and then the phone could be held nearly flat while "scanning" straight ahead of itself.

There's various tricorder phone cases available on Amazon, see here.

This sounds like a lot of fun!

At two of the Artemis Armada LARPS we had hidden objects that emitted a Bluetooth signal. Players ran an app on their smart phones that would help them find the object by tracking the strength of the signal.

So, I know the guy that made this...

iOS MyCorder Interactive Scavenger Hunt

It was deployed by the Dragon Con 2018 Trek Trak, and I was in the list of scannable life forms! I'll tweet at him to take a look at this thread.

Yep, that's very similar, thanks for the pointer!  I observe that it has the LCARS look and feel.  See the Legal section of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCARS which talks about the DMCA takedown risk for any apps that use LCARS.

You're all making me feel guilty for not working on Artemis Away Team in like a year...
