I don't think there's ever a pay schedule that'll satisfy everbody's needs.

At the face of it, I think $40 is a decent price for the game to satisfy 6 players, outside of other concerns.

Obviously, some folks are running lean on money, which is where the group splitting the cost can come in.  I could go on about how I had about $400/month from my 20-hour/week job in campus IT for $4.25/hour while taking 18-22 credits/semester.

But we all choose how to allocate our scarce resources differently.  I don't know that folks with a scant $50/month or less of extra cash should be prioritizing to buy a video game, but then it's a pretty good investment compared to movie tickets.

My group has paid for 2 separate bridge licenses (pre 2.0 and 2.0).  We're older.  Less free time.  More disposable cash.  We value our time, so we reward the time Thom has spent on the game because we know what that time cost him.

Not every activity has to be priced so poor people can play (I was poor once, I know).  Poor college kids with a 1.70 license can stick with that for zero additional cost just fine.  That was the lesson I learned growing up.  Go without.  Live within your means.  Work to advance your position and then you can live at a higher standard.  But not before.

Any clues on how long it take to get the download link once you've forwarded the receipt (for people who have bought 1.7 less than 90 days ago)?

Thanks,
David

Under normal circumstances, I'd say a couple of days tops.

Thom is apparently busy on the convention circuit atm though, so it may be a little longer - I know a few others got theirs after a few days recently, so hang in there Thom'll get it.

I'm not in a hurry, as long as I have some clues about why it's taking some time.

If Thom is busy with convention at the moment, there's no problem for me.

The reason some are complaining is because they may have an equally as difficult financial position, and while I myself am not complaining since I have a crew with which to split the cost, some don't. It's because of that that they complain about the way the upgrade was done.

Simple solution:  Don't play until you can pay.  Save your 'some 50 or so dollars' for the semester and wait until you have the ability to pay, rather than complaining its not free.  Just because you cannot afford it currently doesn't mean Thom should reduce the price or provide it for free.  That viewpoint seems incredibly selfish to me.

In a self-contained personal universe, that'd work out.
Here though, online communities die as fast as they spring up and if you don't get in on the action now you probably won't later.

I didnt ever say lower the price. What I said was make it so you didnt necessarily NEED the proof of purchase as some people lost theirs or the person who has it left their crew and stopped playing all together. Instead have a 5 dollar purchase price for the upgrade exe (it would need to be an upgrade exe, not the full thing) option on the store regardless of proof of purchase (I know for the ammount of money I have, albeit extremely small, I would have bought my own upgrade exe in addition to the one the crew I play with got). All said and done, 2.0 is completely rolled out now to a large portion of the community. I still support Thom charging 5 dollars for the update, but do wish it could have been done slightly differently.

I bought Artemis well over a year ago.  I've gotten MUCH more than $40 out of fun with it, and in fact just stopped by the forums to see what was new while setting up my living room and computers for tomorrow night's game!  And I've just gleefully dropped $40 on buying 2.0, even though I won't be using it tomorrow due to the Ipad version not being ready yet.  Oh, Great Programmer, you just keep on keeping on.  We love ya.

Changing subject from this money thing:

Any word on the android or IOS 2.0?  Have a big gaming event coming up and will be setting up a few artemis bridges for it.  Having tablet support again would give us a lot more stations to play around with

Last I read here on the forums was an estimate of October or November for an update to the tablets.

Yea, I heard october as well. Im sure Thom will get it out soon, but since he IS a one man crew, it could easily take him longer.

OK, so apparently I bought this game at the worst possible time.  I bought a PC 2.0 version to use as the viewscreen and Kindle android versions to use as the stations because I thought the touchscreen interface would be cooler.  And they don't work together and apparently won't work together until at least October when I can expect to have to buy the Android versions again?  Am I understanding this correctly?

Most likely you will not need to buy the android version again. If you need (and show some proof of purchase) I can send you the 1.702 client which will work with the kindle in the meantime.

I'm not sure how I could do that, because I bought it on Steam.
