Hello!

During the TSN Armada Online event, the TSN RP Community hosted several racing events. These used specially designed courses that competing crews had to navigate around, and the first crew to complete the number of laps won.

Several people who participated expressed an interest in having a go at more of the races, including having a try at the more advanced race courses that had been designed, but were not used during the TSN Armada Online event.

What I would like to know is, would there be crews interested in taking part in an Artemis Race League if the TSN RP Community were to organise one? It would aim to be a regular event, with teams competing once every month or so on a set date, and would be hosted by the TSN RP Community. We'd look at creating a leaderboard, designing new race courses to navigate, and holding some "training sessions" so crews could practise honing their skills.

If you want to see one of the races from the Armada, I have linked one below. We held four race events in total - find them in the TSN Armada Races playlist here:

Race Event Playlist

I have added a poll. If you are interested, please complete it! If not, indicate that too!

This sounds like a great idea! I'm without a computer right now, so I couldn't participate, but honestly I think it's always a good idea to come up with non-combat applications for Artemis.

Are there race classes, or does everyone just fly a Light Cruiser or Battleship to make it fair? What about Jump Drive? How about fighter races! 😃

I don't think a jump drive race, in this format, would necessarily work. It would need a different style course, and I am not sure it would be possible to design something fun....

Fighter races might work, but as they only have two speeds they might not be as enjoyable for those flying. Also, they would be flying solo, so there wouldn't be that element of team coordination.

Part of the fun I think was the coordination between helm and engineering, and for the advanced races having a third person to navigate would also be important.

As for classes, they would definitely have to be the same class in each race. We went with the Light Cruisers in each race we did, but there isn't anything stopping the use of different classes. There could be races using Scouts, which would add some more interest for helm. There could even be modded ships used, with weapons removed and tweaked stats, which would be interesting.

Seems like a yacht race is a better analogy (requiring teamwork) rather than an auto race (one driver).

A yacht race is precisely where the inspiration came from! I have had a go at some racing in the past, and figured it might make a good format for the TSN Races.

There had been attempts in the past in the TSN RP Community to make races work - setting out lanes like a race track using mines or blackholes to guide people. The marker buoys were a new idea that I came up with for the game that really worked though, much better than I expected as well. I think they present the team with plenty of navigational decisions that they can make as well e.g. running through a nebula at slower speeds, or skirting round it and maintaining a higher speed, but having a longer distance to transit. For coordinating the consoles, helm and engineering really have to work together, and it take a lot of skill an careful timing from helm to pull off a tight and accurate turn. And of course, there are other threats that could be added - the monsters for example would really help to mix things up I think!
